I certainly didn't notice anything. I think it is hard to read facial expression during these fights, as the men are wearing protective mouth pieces (more power to them - keep those teeth in tact and avoid costly dental procedures). However, he also did not look "as sweet as cherries", but I think that he probably shouldn't have smiled (considering that this was a fight)..... but to tell you the truth, it would be nice if they smiled a little more.
That point deduction was ridiculous, it made me wonder if the ref was in Gomez's promotor's pocket at the time.
It was a joke. Settle down. geez.... Seriously, though, this was a case where the guy most guilty gained a point. Just plain stupid.
i know right? thats why i have only a thousand posts....i cant spend my life making all these guys understand stuff!!
how is he guilty if its an unintentional head butt? that means no one was at fault. its a weird rule, but so is the whole WBC
Don't blame the ref. Blame the rules. Boxings rules need to be cleaned up a bit. A lot of the rules refs don't abide to or pick and chose.
Unintentional does not mean not complicit. It was more Gomez's actions that led to the butt than Vitali's, but Vitali was penalized. Gomez could have conceivably 'butted his way to victory' if it had been a close fight. I can guess why it doesn't apply in the US.
Agreed. I can understand refs being like umpires -having their own personal touches on the game what not- but when they start interpreting their own rules, then we'll have problems. I don't want umpires saying that he plays the game with 4 strikes instead of 3 or anything.
