That version of Vitali would have knocked out every heavyweight in the division now - aside from Oliver McCall and David Tua.
I agree. I'm not a VK fan, either, but he was a wrecking crew on Kirk Johnson that night. Granted, Kirk did himself no favors showing up in such poor shape, but I don't think it would have made a difference.
Vitali was the less skilled brother in my opinion, he looked like the raw form of Wlad. The difference between the two brothers IMO was that Vitali always seemed to fight in a pleasing way for the fans, and had the chin and heart that Wlad could only dream to have. During Vitali's reign as a contender/champ he gave us great matches with Lewis, Williams, and Sanders, the man was able to be in a dog fight and almost always come out victorious. Its just too bad injuries cut his career short, I really dont think heavywieght boxing would be in as big as whole as is it is today if Vitali was around and healthy.
Cruiser, you have decent post. But please don't flatter Kiltischko cum guzzlers with his win over Johnson. Johnson was never good. Always had lack of focus. Never was truly dedicated. Never got in shape. In fact, Johnson came in the ring fatter and heavier than ever before when he fought VK. So please, don't give these idiots a Vitali Klitschko hard on.
I think his performance in the Wiliams fight was also very impressive, as he seemed to intentionally bring the uppercut into his game,to great effect. He never seemed to use that punch very much before. I think he'll impress and amaze when he gets back in the ring in Feb. though. He's still not too old, and he is professional enough to ensure that he's fully trained and conditioned to the peak of his ability, or else he wouldn't even attempt it.
This is the 6 time attempting it, enough is enough. I use to be a fan of his, now his pissing me off by trying to comeback and screwing other fighters around. He should fight Mccline and prove to everyone that he can make it through a training camp and beat a top 20 guy, instead of ****ing title holders around again.
I understand. Believe me, I am not a Klitschko fan at all and never have been. However, I just happened to stumble upon that fight and I was very impressed with Vitali's performance. I know that Johnson was disgustingly out of shape and I was very upset about it but it wouldn't have made a difference. The truth is that Kirk's only chance of winning was catching Klitschko with that same left hook he caught Maskaev with 3 years prior. It's a vicious left hook that follows what is basically a feigning right hand. Klitschko knew this so he took it away by simply backing up or blocking it with his right. That's basically all Vitali had to worry about.
The Vitali during Kirk fight would not only put permanent damage to the brain of any boxer in that time, including his bro, and Lennox. If he was only more aggresive. I hope he comes back strong.
Apart from the obvious fact that Vitali's career has been so limited by his fragile body, H2H he was a monster. Underestimated because he looked rugged, but he was so effective. I remember how most people thought Herbie Hide could use his speed against Vitali or how Lennox would blow him out of thering...some even thought Williams would be too tough and relentless for Vitali. He was very accurate, very consistent with his punches, good reflexes, his leaning - back style looked weird but worked for him. I would only favor defensive masters like Ali over him, I believe he clearly would beat most if not all aggressive offensive fighters.
