    True.

But in time they would become the money fights - i.e. the public has a renewed interest in boxing and wants to pay to see these top fights happen.

    Another problem is PPV.

Will it be the death of boxing? Where do the new fans come from?

Harsher mandatory defense regulations - making it so that every other world title defense must be a top 3 contender or whoever the best available contender at the weight is. This would stop The Valdemort Cash Cow Process of getting a fighter an alphabet title and having them fight outmatched fringe contenders instead of real opponents - ala Ricky Burns.

At one time or another I've actually considered both of these options

Even OUR definition of "top fights" isn't always the top guys in a division fighting each other.

I know its going back a loooong way but off the top of my head, if Hagler-Hearns was going to generate more money than Hagler vs. any of the middleweight contenders then Hagler-Hearns was going to happen even though Hearns was totally unranked at 160.

That's why I say every other fight, so the ideal process would be Voluntary (money maker), Mandatory (prove your worth), Voluntary, Mandatory, etc...

I posted this in the other "Improving" thread....

"I don't like open scoring at all. Judges can get swayed by getting booed or cheered each round, boxers can get demotivated if things arn't going their way, boxers who know they are in a lead can start running, clinching just muddle though the fight."

Its not the same as every 4 rounds but my reservations are the same.

Yeah, 1 mando every 2 or 3 fights is realistic. I don't think any champion in history has ever fought number 1 contender, number 1 contender, number 1 contender.....

At the moment judges can be swayed as it is. Boxers can be demotivated because they think they're behind and also they can spoil a fight because they think they are winning.

I think it helps going down the championship rounds where fighters know what they have to do.
