its funny...I remember King really hyped up Valuev as this unstoppable giant who was going to take America by storm...yet his fight with Barrett was not terribly impressive...yeah he won..ko'd Barrett but not that impressive...I remember Manny Steward was ripping on Valuev the whole fight After that fight he has not fought in the US and King had not gone out on a limb to hype him up
Ya know the scary thing? That's all factual. It's not like other organizations where you gotta dig deep to get to their corruption levels. This is all out in the open, right in your face, mocking you every day. This doesn't even touch the bribery's apparently out there. Stuff like paying Chagaev under the table to step out of a unification match with Iggy.
Uhhh...no. At the time the WBA stripped Lewis, he had two conflicting mandatory challengers because he was the undisputed champ: Michael Grant and John Juiz. Grant was receiving an incredible amount of hype and being picked by many boxing "experts" and fans alike to dethrone Lewis, so he was clearly the more attractive challenger. Lewis chose to fight Grant but made an entreaty to the WBA for some leeway in the form of an extension of the deadline for his fight with Ruiz in order to hold on to all of his belts. The WBA refused, and stripped him of the title. In the wake of that decision, they took so much flack for stripping Lewis that they invented the "super championship" as a means to avoid stripping unified champions with multiple mandatories while extorting even more sanctioning fees by creating another bogus title in the form of the "regular championship." Lewis was asking that they cut unified champions some slack on their obligations to fight mandatories in the future, not for them sanction multiple world champions in the same division.
