I guess knocking out George Groves in front of 80,000 people at Wembley didn't mean anything to the WBA.
WBA is on Sturm's payroll. That's the reason they stripped Froch. If Sturm wins his next fight, he'll be WBA regular champion and he would very possibly be upgraded to full/super WBA (with Ward possibly vacating or getting stripped due to not fighting at 168lbs) so Sturm could go on against Abraham in a huge unification match.
I totally agree ,he is a good example of why retiring unbeaten is not necessarily an example of a Boxing Great ,he was pretty much invisible as a fighter and forgotten the moment he was retired , Joe who?,....Froch imho is the real deal who would have beaten Calzaghe and as far as British Boxing greats go he is among them .
this is the 1st plausible explanation for recent wba actions i've come across. froch refused to vacate then they cancelled purse bids v ward. they must make a fortune off sturm.
Yes. WBA also awarded Sturm the "super" belt back when Golovkin was the mandatory, and GGG won the "regular" belt and the fight was never enforced until Sturm lost his belt. Also, Maurice Weber got a fight for WBA "interim" LMW title on tomorrow's undercard just because he is promoted by Sturm.
