I think it's turned it into a tough man competition. It's just not my thing. it doesn't help people understand the different styles in the sport, it hasn't broadened the market...

 

Haye vs Harrison has 20,000 in the MEN and a half a million buying PPV?

 

Was it supposed to help understand different styles? I would have thought it was more to increase the casual fans? which is your 2nd comment. Do you have statistics on that?

Brook v Hatton massive viewing figures maybe prizefighter had a part in that?

 

The No.1 fighter in the world is a master boxer yet you castise him at every opportunity.

The mass apeal of boxing is blood, guts, toughman contest. thats what broadens the market of boxing.

 

Then that would have shown across the board and it hasn't. Casuals won't know the promoters. The Brook fight was down to excellent promoting in the region and on Sky.

We haven't seen a significant increase in articles in papers - in fact I haven't seen a single mainstream piece about Prizefighter other than Bunce's way back.

The first point I made is important. Growing an audience is partly about attracting them, but it's also about educating them so they engage more often with the content.

It's what I do every day - so PF might be good at attracting casual views, but it doesn't look like it's converting them into actual fans. They're fans of PF, not boxing.

I'm not saying it's "bad" for boxing, I just don't think it's massively good. Just my opinion.

First point, I chastise Mayweather for how he behaves as a person and in picking his fights. I think he's an excellent fighter and I greatly enjoyed watching him pull Ortiz apart, same as I enjoyed his performance against Judah.

I've never been one of the "he's so boring" crew.

Second, yes it is. But PF does not appear to be doing that. Good competitive fights, made visible will broaden the market.

 

imho df you're looking at prizefighter from the wrong angle. i watch it as i watch limited overs/20-20 cricket. it's cracking entertainment, even if its not the 'noble art' (and the equivalent phrase for Test cricket). that doesn't make it right or wrong ;it's just another format and if it gets the lesser lights their time in the limelight and ,lets not forget, a very generous 32k then more power to its elbow.

on the bigger picture of warrren v hearn i think spearmint rhino's post (no 46) is an interesting angle. don't think we should see hearn as a shining knight, after all he'sin it to make as much money as warrren.the difference is that hearn's ideas for making money chime far more with those of boxing fans and aalso appeal to casuals. warrrens faults are excellently set out by spearmint. i really wanted to go and watch cleverley at the albert hall - i like both the boxer and the venue; but seeing the non quality of the opponent i wasn't going to bother, so the wbo have done me and uk boxing fans a big favour

 

Yes I agree the main problem is converting casual viewers into actual boxing fans.

So Prizefighter does its bit in getting casual fans to watch an entertaining event, then what happens next is the main problem.

Casual fan think's prizefighter was really good and so do his mates so they decide to watch a bit more.

A few weeks later they decide to get together to watch a fight they then realise its on boxnation and they havent heard of that before so they all think **** that not signing up for a boxing channel, so that's a problem straight away or they watch a few fight's that are poor match up's or poor undercards and they then think this is **** and thats it.

The key is providing meaningful fights more often than not.

 

I personally don't like Prizefighter. Rarley watch it but don't really see the problem. It gives fighters a shot and most of the fighters who win it go on to do something decent.

Eubank did face some less than stellar competition when he was champion but clearly that was a ploy to get under Benn's skin. Which worked to an extent.

Although a champion cannot go into every single fight expecting a war if you hold a world title you should be facing off against someone in the top ten at the very least.

 

Also, the people demanded Eubank and Watson.

 

Yet we get to see it now. GAY!
