Weird and/or diverse rules in boxing.

    There are so many different rules in boxing, in different countries/states and with different organisations.
    These rules can hugely influence a fight, and even affect the outcome.

    This content is protected


    - Fighter can be saved by the bell in any/last round (everywhere).
    - Referee is scoring the fight (damn Brits).
    - 3 knockdown rule (everywhere).
    - 20 point must system (some WBU fights).
    - Partial round scored by accident from round 4 on (California).
    - 20 second count when punched out of the ring, instead of 10 (everywhere).

    (but please don't make it all about this)

    - Home fighter is allowed to headbutt, hold/hit and elbow his opponent (Oakland).
    - It's illegal for the visiting fighter to hit his opponent in the face (Nürenberg).

    Do you guys have other examples and fights that got influenced by them?

    Those 2 are jokes because they're not actual rules, but they both actually happened :yep

    WBC (i think) deduct a point from a fighter for an accidental foul if the other person is cut

    If a fighter takes a knee it's actually a foul (New York have this rule on their book, though it's rarely enforced)

    So they take a point away and then they fight on, once the other guy cant continue he would win by tko?

    If the home fighter lands more than 2 punches in a row, the fight must be stopped (Wales)

    They continue as they would usually if they can, if they can't a point is still deducted and it'd be a technical decision. I think Beyer v Bika was a high profile case of this rule being used.

    When a home fighter is getting punished the promoter is allowed to ring the bell and save his fighter no matter how long is left in the round (Danny Williams v Konstantin Airich)

    A hometown fighter can win the fight when knocked out (Canada)

    Open scoring, where they announce the scores every 4 rounds (for 12 round fights)
