Well done Sky, you just destroyed Boxing's reputation to the general public.

Got on main BBC headlines and on back pages of papers but 'casuals' will have felt let down by the 'action' from the two most heavily hyped Haye fights: Valuev and Audley.

Haye Vs Harrison was possibly the worst 'fight' I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of fights.

Said this before this fight happened, its a way to make a quick buck, draw more casuals in, but when it ends unsatisfactory, it will just drive them away.


These are the type of fights that vindicates people's decision to walk away from Boxing, people who were fans, but now watch MMA, and given the emergence of MMA, Boxing should be doing all it can to claim the next generation of fans, not drive them into the arms of other combat sports.

 

Adam Booth and David Haye are LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK. They give you sh** on a platter and you naive Brit fans are happily handing your cash over in these disgraceful PPVs.

Hilarious! A sweet scam scheme Sky, Booth, Haye and Buncey have engineered there. Real nice setup: talk up some near 40-year old bum opponent as if he actually could be competitive, rip-off fans for 14.95 quid and then cash in for millions as a result.

If they want to make sh** fights, fine. But at least put them on free TV and stop ripping off honest boxing fans for their hard-earned money.

 

I think most of us knew from the moment the fight was signed that it was the dictionary definition of low-risk, high reward, from Haye's perspective. I was surprised when friends and colleagues starting buying into the hype (silly me!) and I would hear people genuinely saying they thought Harrison could win.

The hype was impressive, though, when you think about it. The fight went from being a fanciful match up to a 'pick it' fight, listening to some people. On a side note, one of the girls I work with went out on a date last night and she knew about the fight so I told her if it comes up in conversation, say to the chap you are out with - 'Fraudley's going to get his fragile glass jaw brutally shattered'. She was able to repeat it back to me before we left the office on Friday so I hope she remembered her line! Any bloke would be impressed if he was out with a bird who knew her boxing!

I think people got their money's worth, to be honest. The fight got national coverage, brought people together and gave people something to talk about other than Eastenders and Big Brother, it got people out and about on a night they might not have gone out, the fight was in 3D - history was made there and it finished with a knock out.

If people are disappointed then they need to point the finger at Harrison, not Haye. Haye gave him 6 - 7 minutes to find a pair before he decided enough was enough. If Harrison was going to stand a chance of winning, he should've come out swinging from the off and chanced landing a lucky shot. No-one complains about Hagler-Hearns lasting under three rounds for a reason! Harrison talked himself up, saying he was going to give Haye the fight of his life and that he was going to be in Haye's face for every second of every minute of every round. What happened to the pre-fight boasts, Audley? - You did sod all apart from stand in front of your opponent with your hands too far apart, showing about as much activity as a noble gas - what a surprise(!).

The only thing I am disappointed with is that my prediction of a second round TKO/KO was wrong! Good job I didn't stick a tenner on it!

I thought it was a disgrace, luckily, I didn't directly pay for it, I watched at my brother in laws, I only had to provide a few tins of beer! the only good thing to come from the whole even was that one of my mates had Haye in the 3rd round! I didn't see much of the build up, but the little I did see I thought was pretty poor, in fact, other than the Mag 7 last month, I think Sky's PPV's have been poor in the last couple of years. It seemed that they couldn't wait to wrap up the show after the fight (???) had ended,

At least the Pacman fight made up for the shambles of the PPV event, I recorded that and watched it this morning, the set up looked pretty good, a number of fights beforehand (although I was Fast Forwarding though them to the main event) and a four hour show on main Sky Sports.

 

Haye is NOT a bigger draw than the Klitschkos. He may be able to fool the casual British fan into buying his con job of a ppv but Britain makes up a very small portion of boxing fans worldwide if you hadn't noticed. Do you think this **** would fly in any other country? I don't think so. If you believe Lennox actually thinks Haye will beat the Klitschkos you are even more naive than I thought, he is saying what his employers, Sky, want him to say. As soon as Mr Excitement steps up to fight a Klitschko, which will have to be very soon if he wants to hold onto his last shred of credibility, he will be taught a very painful lesson.

The thing that bothers me is that Audley seems to be getting the blame from the press. He did nothing differet, talked a good game as always but was shocking in the ring.

I think all of the knowledgeable British Forum Posters who know Boxing in and out of the Ring called this fight for what it was. Short term gain long term loss, this whole thing wreaks of it and always did.

What Boxing needs right now is short term loss long term gain (i.e. Timothy Bradley-Devon Alexander, Paul Williams-Sergio Martinez II) fights that aren't huge fights but are good fights. But it won't happen consistently as the Sport is run by a bunch of idiots from the fighters, to the trainers, to the managers, to the promoters right through to the TV execs. Thank you very much Sky you have pretty much ruined all the good work you have put in the new season.

 

How is it our fault the fight sucked? It was obvious to everyone educated about the sport that Audley didn't have a chance. Some of the ****wits on here started saying they wanted Audley to win, that he had a real chance...

People believe what the media tells them because very few people bother to learn the sport. As Big Dunk said, Audley did what he's done for his whole career: hot air and underachievement.

All it did was prove that Audley was as **** as he'd always been.

People put too much truck in one fight 'ruining' boxing. People watched nonsense fights with Eubank and his bum of the month club. They kept watching. The Klitschko-Briggs fight was just as bad as last night's.

 

How do you mean 'our'? Do you work for Sky?

 

"People believe what the media tells them" people believed what Sky was telling them, keep it specific.

Sky are a disgrace. You dont hear HBO- Showtime hyping their fights up as much as what Sky do, nor do they show the impartiality that most of the Sky team do, and most the fighters they have on air, are world class fighters, they have every right to hype them, Sky are just con-men.
