I've had to do similar in training so it's possible. That's why it's called technique and not just brute strength. Fedor wasn't escaping properly. He was trying to move his hips but he wasn't covering properly or bridging. In fact if you want to get into it - he looked every bit as bad on the ground as Brock did in his recent standup outings.

The reality distortion field is strong with you.... Ever thought about training Fedor? Im sure he'd love to hear your advice.

He just might. I learned how to escape the mount from Relson Gracie and Renzo Gracie in person. Fedor could use a good refresher with one of those guys. Relson has been doing jiujitsu since Fedor was shitting his diapers.

The real distortion around here is the guys like you that despite being knowledgeable fans and martial artists still want to deny what your eyes are showing you. Bad technique is still bad technique. It doesn't matter who is committing it. I didn't come to this board to argue today but you guys seem to go on the offensive whenever an opinion different than your own is offered.

You guys want to hate on Zuffa and boycott the UFC - then I say go for it. Whatever it takes to get you through the night.

Like Bruce Lee might say it's like a finger pointing to the moon don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory.

Don't take my word for it. Here's what Bas said about it:

"Yes, just BUCK, could have saved some people yesterday again. Drives me nuts that they don't do it. Fedor shouldn't retire yet."

Just BUCK? In other words exactly what I just said - cover and bridge.

:lol: Yeah just "buck"... The 300lb lead weight sat on him and the canned hams raining down on his closed eyes probably had something to do with his "bad technique"
And for the record i saw Fedor "bucking up" numerous times. You're turning into a troll Sugar....

I'm only a troll if you are because I'm just responding to you today. I just want to give my respects to the greatest MMA fighter of all time. Can I at least say that without getting some anti-UFC diatribe back?

Fedor respect. I'll leave it at that.

he does have bad technique in the traditional sense but his gifts counteracted this and also helped the technique be more effective in some ways. If you look at boxers like ali or roy jones jr they were not technically perfect but were still the best fighters around.

The problem is that those gifts go out the window at certain time.
Those are great examples btw. They were naturally gifted fighters. It's something about the way the saw fighting, it's much different than others.

Fedor is the best mma fighter ever. Ali was the greatest heavyweight ever. Roy Jones was indeed special. I usually make the comment that I will soon post about another all time great, George Foreman.

All of these fighters I've just mentioned were great in spite of their technique, not because of it.

Bernard Hopkins is an example from boxing. Hopkins was a much better technician at 37, than he was at 27.

Randy Couture was a far better technician in 2007 than he was in 2000.

I can't see any signs of evolving from Fedor.

  13. Fedor hasn’t slid terribly far but has slid, you can even tell this visually, and has been backed up by his coaches.

Its easy for BJJ practitioners to critisize a fighter in his twilight but they should also remember that this guy used to own top BJJ black belts.

The only one who can criticize Fedor is the BJJ world champion, Werdum, since he is the only one to ever submit Fedor in MMA. However Werdum NEVER critisized Fedor, he actually gave him credit, saying that he trained a long time in the specific double attack move, that that double attack is VERY difficult to counter, he also says that Fedor did counter and was very difficult to submit, further Werdum has stated that he still regards Fedor as the best and that lack of sweat allowed him the win.

You don’t need to have the best technique to the best fighter, also there is no pre defined technique that one must follow. Even the best boxer might not have the best technique. Fedor for many people is worse technically than Andrei Arlovski, yet its fedor who has a better standup. Fedor keeps his hands low but gets punched less than anyone, never been KO’ed and is regarded as a threat to anyone.

Fedor was fit and healthy but its clear to anyone that hes lost a bit of speed, a bit of power etc. Age does this to everyone eventually. You don’t have to be fat and physically look unhealthy to be out of your prime.
