It has nothing to do with race, why even bring that **** into it in the first place? Jones was simply on a different level to Calzaghe prime for prime. This is coming from an un-biased white man with an appreciation for Calzaghe's outstanding ability.

I tend to think Roy holds most of the key advantages in a matchup between he and Conn, who would be a sterner test for the stand up boxer-punchers and sluggers than a guy like Jones, who is the quicker fighter in every sense (handspeed, footspeed, upperbody/head movement) with greater power. I don't see how Conn wins personally, though his technical skills would certainly trouble Jones.

the hand speed, footwork, power, head movement prime for prime were very comparible, and its too bad they never fought prime for prime..

Lets not forget that while Jones was shot, Calzaghe was past prime too when they DID fight..

They're not really comparable though. The only worthy attributes Jones still held (at about 50% of max) were his handspeed and power. Everything else, including his footspeed and reflexes (which were his best attributes) had completely eroded. Calzaghe over the past few years has developed into the best fighter he's ever been from a skills standpoint, he's just deteriorated physically, though to nowhere near the extent that Jones has.

As good as Calzaghe is, and he's a great fighter, Jones was a level up at his peak.

You say that like there are many fighters like Joe Calzaghe. :huh

A prime Jones, maybe going into a fight thinking he is going to have an easy night with some unknown 'Eurobum' titlist like Calzaghe....and Calzaghe coming in hungry...surely creates the type of occasions upsets are made of?

Calzaghe would be the underdog, but to people in the know (hardcore boxing fans) he would be a live underdog.

No, i meant prime for prime they were a very comparible level.. thats why i think the fight back around 2000 or something wouldve been competetive, and morerelevant than the cans they were fighting at the time

I know what you meant. I think Calzaghe was a better fighter in the past few years than he was 8-9 years ago. More experienced, versatile, crafty, and skilled even if he was fresher physically back then. I'd give the more recent Joe a better shot (around the time of the Lacy fight) than I would a younger Joe due to the intangibles he brings.

So in your opinion, the best joe against the best roy, would be like a 116-112 Ud for Roy or something like that?

Pretty much, 9-3 or 8-4 in favor of Jones. Calzaghe's grit, craftiness, and relentlessness would allow him to take a few rounds down the stretch.

Herol ****ing Graham style is all wrong when up agianst a prime RJJ.

and carl ****ing Froch is too slow. yes he's big and strong but jone would make him look like and ogar trying to swat a fly. Jones stops froch in 7 off a wicked body shot after playing with him:good

why people tend to overlook fighters with 0 is beyond me it's like when people say PBF has no chance agianst the elite at 147,and 135. surley if a guy is unbeaten with no real controversy( ala Otkke) over his record can't be writtten off

not true at all his puching form not more ugly his power was not the same and his ability to take puches weren' there as they use to be. his fott and hand spped were also not at ther peak in essnece he was a far lesser fighter then what he use to be just like jones. IMO

but even back then he was just as versitle , just as skilled and just as adaptable. only difference was he didn't have that big fight experince in the USA.
