Bench adds muscle to shoulders triceps and chest, power is generated in the shoulder and delivered by turning your weight
275 pounds maybe lol, if he bench 275 kg's thats 4 and a half times his bodyweight would make him the greatest bencher of all times by a long way
atsch Learn about the kinetic chain and then maybe you'll start to understand that a throw of any sort starts with the legs. In boxing the arms are responsible for delivering the power, not creating the power. There was a famous Russian study on boxers that showed only a small percentage of punching power was generated by the arms, and as boxers became more experienced/better punchers the contribution from the arms was less and less. There was also another study using EMG to determine muscles used in different punches and the contribution of the triceps was minimal, it was the trapezius muscle when it came to the upper body. A good puncher is a 'whipper', not a 'turner'. If you turn your weight into a punch you're pushing.
ur saying this from experience I been boxing since I was a kid, and YDKSAB I've won titles at schoolboy and senior level, I know what I'm talking about and you don't! You don't use your arm in a punch u muppet, that's why people with no power are called arm pnuchers, I didn't say triceps where used in a punch, it's all about the shoulder, ask any good boxer, mayweather gamboa etc it's how you punch! yeh and your turn your toes and body aswell! for hooks! when the shoulder is relaxed hats were all the weight and power comes from you use your toes and turn your body so that your parallel 90 degrees with palm down
You've been boxing since you were a kid?!!?! Well that overrides biomechanics and scientific experiments then. And you won a title??? You must be extra knowledgable. Your shoulder is part of your arm dumb dumb. One thing is for sure, I definitely believe that you've taken some heavy blows to your head :thumbsup
Okay, you keep benching and building up your little tricep muscles so you can be the number one arm puncher in your no name town
Benchpress uses shoulders chest aswell as triceps u moron! if you have no boxing technique benchpress wont do ****, If u do benching will help
So do you want stiffness or compliance at the shoulder? When considering the kinetic chain do you want more mass proximal or distal relatively speaking? What does the scapular do when you're bench pressing, and what does it do when you're throwing a punch? Understand those things and you will be slightly less ******ed kid, off you go :good
Actaully dealt with most of this is true about the kinetic chain and the power coming from toes hips shoulder, ur right a good puncher is a hipper not a turner, this is true, but the way you say power comes from your toes, if you don't generate weight in the shoulders you will have no power even if you use your toes and legs correctly, the chest is used slighly aswell but not hugely, its more about the shoulder!
Ohner...is that you? I had it 116-112. Solis gassed in the last two rounds that were removed and then re-added during the fight.
Power doesn't come from the toes, it comes from the triple extension and the coordination/timing of the elastic energy recoil of the trunk through to the arms. Each link summates to add more force/speed to the arms. The more you're using your shoulders/arms the more you're slowing yourself down and decreasing power. It's about technique, timing and proper mechanics. Bench press encourages static stability of the scapular, when you're throwing a punch you need dynamic stability in order to transfer that power through your arms. Bench press just puts a block up near the end of the chain, which is why you'll find that it will never have a correlation with punching power. You look at how GGG trains, he does a lot of exercises that promote proper scapular rhythm.
Regarding Frazier's inability to do an overhead press...He was unable to straighten out his left arm due to an accident suffered as a child; and that would certainly impact one's ability to perform that particular exercise, since it would cause him to become imbalanced when trying to perform the press. His performance in other disciplines during the Superstars was pretty woeful. But any training he did during workouts was focused upon the idea of improving his ability to box at a high level rather than to improve his overall athletic ability. Given his success in the ring, the strategy paid off.
