Well I started a thread earlier, on why I think Paulie will win..... http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=226410 .... and in it I basically begun the thread by saying: Khan’s in for a gruelling 12 rounds on Saturday. Not gruelling in the sense that he will be pitted through a physical and high punishment absorbing fight, but gruelling as in a mentally gripping experience. He’ll find himself against a guy equal to him in hand speed and foot work, exceed him in ring IQ, and very resistant (iron chin) to his power shots. On top of that, he’ll be missing (hitting thin air) more than usual, and exerting far more energy than he will like. As shown in the Diaz fights (and loads others), Paulie's impressive footwork and ring movement will counter and neutralize Khan’s attempt of stalking and breaking him down. Oh and did I mention how Paulie will spoil him on the inside? Yep look out for that if Khan begins getting the better of him at range. In the Cotto fight he demonstrated the ability to be very strong in clinches, and landing meaningful (point winning) shots on the way in and out. Now seeing as though Khan isn’t as physically strong as Cotto and is untested on the inside, I’m pretty certain Paulie will forcing him in to these situations and make him pay for his lack of experience. The things Paulie will do won’t look pretty in the eyes of judges (or the fans); thus preventing him from attaining a clear wide decision. He will however, do enough to make it a very close fight and steal a close decision (maybe split). So yep that’s my final prediction, Paulie will spoil Khan’s US debut! A couple of decent responses have followed this, mainly by UK fans who have thoughtful reasons on why Paulie won't win it.
Basically....just fight back! Make it ugly and drag him into a fight. Amir khan cannot take clean punches or any sort of punishment whatsoever. He is just NOT a tough fighter who can stand and have a war, hes okay on the outside then timing you and coming in with these 1000 punch volume flurries he loves, but he cant take a clean blow at all or hes all over the place. Paulie cant expect to win this fight with just one hand. Sometimes i feel he only has a left jab and thats it. Use both hands and get on the inside. Amir khan CANNOT fight on the inside whatsoever. Anyone else noticed this? Im giving Paulie malignaggi a decent chance to win this. But i wouldnt be surprised either to see khan flurry him to death and the ref end up stepping in maybe prematurely. Remember hes with Goldenboy, its his US debut, they NEED him to win
I don't think the jab will work. Khan's got a longer reach, and a better, more forceful jab too. At range Khan holds all the advantages, as he'll be the first to initiate an exchange, and the last one to end it too. I honestly think Paulie should (at times) exploit Khan's weakness of fighting on the inside. In the Cotto fight I noticed how strong Paulie can be in clinches, and his clever way landing a shot on his way in to a clinch, as well landing a few more on his way out.
I'm actually thinking a late Malignaggi stoppage here. Khan will be ALL OVER THE PLACE in the last couple of rounds, and he'll be throwing out the straight combo's from memory, like some faltering computer. As he's doing this, Maligaggi will catch him with the cork-screw right (a shot he caught Diaz with) and Khan will do a silly dance. Paulie then stops him. 11th round!
Let Khan tire himself out then go for the KO but roach if he's taught khan one thing is to be more patient and not waste energy. It's a decent fight I am very much looking forward to, it is kind of like judgement day for khan. He hasn't faced anyone on this level ever before, worth remembering that khan couldn't tko/ko Katelnik despite landing some flush shots. If he ko's paulie who is known to have a solid beard it will give us an idea of how khan's power truly is at 140.
Khan tire out? Seriously that's like expecting Pacquiao to tire out. Against Kotelnik he threw well over a thousand punches, whilst maintaining a consistent high tempo (bouncing in and out) throughout the whole fight. It's safe to say Khan has pretty good work rate at this stage in his career, will not tire out against a Paulie Malignaggi who is not known for his ability to hurt people to the body and tire them down As for not being able to hurt Kotelnik. Well that doesn't really mean anything, as the montstrous puncher Maidana couldn't hurt Kotelnik either. The guy has a very tight guard (much like Clottey's) to match his very solid chin. Also with this tight guard, he actually blocked most of Khan's power shots. If you look at the connect rate, you'll see Khan had a very low connect percentage on the night
Malignaggi's only two cards are his chin and hand-speed. But hand-speed with no significant power, and the fact that he doesn't throw it more often means it is not a factor. Malignaggi has good stamina also, but he has to win the rounds not just survive them.
I was thinking the same thing... Khan seems predictable. I think if paulie can mix up his attack and be creative, he may fluster Khan. He should use the 1-2 and try to catch Khan on the chin. I think the right cross will hurt Khan... lord knows paulie has no other punch that will:yep I'm just not feeling Khan. I think Paulie may shock him. Tough for me to commit on this one though.
Malignaggi always comes to fight in shape and this fight will not be an exception. Paulie needs to be in tip top shape and ready to go a full fight showing Khan all kind of angles and lateral movement throughout. Basically box Khans ears off.
Nothing. Maybe catch him with the perfect counter shot he doesnt see coming. I cant see him outboxing Khan.
