Could have been more aggressively, and took more risks. He hardly connected on Wlad, and still had him visibly cut. I don't know what Booth's strategy was, but he was never going to wear Wlad out....

Throw more punches. Have a more varied attack. Be more aggressive. Double the jab. Back Wlad up. Don't reset back at a long range after slipping the jab. Go to the body, particular the right to to the body to set up your trademark overhand right. Counter Wlad's right with a left hook. Initiated, attacked more, lead rather than try to counter.

Basically be an complete fighter he wasn't. Doesn't mean he didn't have attributes. Perhaps not the right mentality or comfort to take a chance. Who knows. It's hard to change against the grain of how you usually fight, as Steward said.

The thing is, Wlad isn't all that comfortable countering aggression himself. Haye made his job a lot easier. Of course, Haye fought like he always does but you'd think he adjust knowing his usual style would play right into Wlad's hands.

Haye had this cute trick where he was moving to his left and than he suddenly attacked Wlad. Two more tricks like the mentioned one combined with more spirited fighting could result in Hayes victory. On the other hand if haye actually did this (fight with more agression) he would surely get knocked out so I really don't understand the banter against him in this moment - he did his thing, and did it good, two more of his big rights in every round would win him a fight.

I think this fight showed that Wlad could be abused by a cunning fighter.

Wlad connected with powershots a couple of times and Haye felt Wlads power. This is the reason that Haye didn't wan't to engage with Wlad.....

I thought Haye fought decent in the first 3 rounds and the 12 th round was how he should have been fighting from the 8th. He just had to throw more caution to the wind, when he was catching Wlad, even the guys who don 't watch the sport were commenting how Wlad "looked panicked" as he backed away.

Wlad couldn't do much when Haye came forward but Haye could never get in a good enough position after one of his lunges got him all over the place.

Haye could have stood in the middle with Wlad and traded shots like Sanders did with him. I think Haye would have been knocked out in the process but there was a 25/30% chance he could have knocked out Wlad like Sanders did with straight, long punches through the middle.

But in order to do so you have to take risks, you have to bet the farm on either getting knocked out yourself or getting lucky hitting the bigger Klitschko. Haye was unwilling to take that risk. That's what it comes down to.

If Haye took more risks and fought with more agression Wlad would knock him out! Wlad almost had him in the later rounds....

Haye landed a few good bodyshots. Had he thrown much more combinations to the body and more punches overall, then he could have troubled Wladimir.

Round 6 I think it was? Haye landed the right about 4 or 5 times and did well to keep his activity up, and he moved really well. That round I gave to Haye (I think I only gave him one other?) - if he fought like that the whole way then he'd have done miles better.

He just needed more activity in between those little engagements and more when he did them - he HAD to throw combos but jsut didnt.

I would agree with that.......however, put yourself in Haye's shoes......dont you think if you were fighting Wlad, you'd mentally prepare yourself and know that you'd have to do your thing knowing that you had to taste some of that power????

.....which takes me back and reminds me of a reporter asking Holyfield after his fight with Tyson, how he was able to take Tyson's power. "Did'nt Tyson's shot hurt?"
.....Holyfield replied, "yeah they hurt, but I already knew going in that his punches would hurt. It's just a matter of conditioning yourself mentally to deal with that pain."

Newsflash........if you're going to fight a Klitchko, know that these guys are heavy punchers and their shots are going to hurt.
Condition yourself mentally to deal with that hurt and still make an attempt to put your gameplan to work.

Apparently if Haye had a gameplan, it was to get lucky and land a big shot.
If that was the plan, did'nt work.

Agree with you! I think the problem was that he only had one gameplan, to connect with a big punch! However he could adjust and fight an other way as he realized that this way he could't win the fight....

I think this is pretty much it. Haye's speed did expose problems for Wlad but he just didn't want to throw counter-punches. And even though the fight was quite competitive during the early rounds, his big right hand over the top was far too looping to give Wlad any consistant trouble.

    Quite well said.
I was surprised that Hay had a nice jab...if he'd doubled it coming in, he could have set up his right hand.
    Or hooked off it.

He did almost have that single big punch when Wlad had to hold on like hell.
Wlad's chin is ok...not china. He came back hard both times he was clobbered.
    Nothing wrong with his guts.

At Hannover, had the count continued, he'd beaten it. When he did get up he was on two solid legs....was there...had good seats, watched his wild looking eyes as he was on his hands and knees.

If the ref in the Brewster fight, hadn't bumped him and knocked him down as he was walking to his corner...who knows, would he have recovered or really been knocked out.

An Ali, don't swap punches with a Shavers....Tuney don't swap with Dempsey.
There were a great many Ali fights where he did not risk anything at all. Yep....folks bitched about that back in the Day.
Just like they bitched about Lenox and Wlad.
Not everyone is a Tyson, Forman, Liston or Dempsey, going for the KO in every fight. Even then it didn't work out all the time.

You have your Ali, Lennox and Wlads also. KO is good to have, but a Win is a Win.

KO's come, and often by themselves, when one tries too hard, often one don't get one...and a dazed fighter can be most effective, reflex hitting back through an opening that should not have been there.
