What do you remember most about Chris 'rapid fire' Byrd?

    He is one of my favorite fighters.

    He actually fought as a MIDDLEWEIGHT. That's right people. A MIDDLEWEIGHT.

    Anyways what do you remember most about Chris Byrd's career.


    1- Making Vitali Quit in front of a roaring home crowd?

    2-Getting knocked out by Ike in one of the most devastating and brutal KO's ever. Byrd stood up and was drooling and stumbling. Sickening sight. But memorable.

    3-Fighting David Tua in a good fight.

    4-His draw against Andrew Golota

    5- Beating a shot Evander Holyfield to win a title

    His schoolings of Tua and Holyfield stick out for me. Also watched his fight with Jimmy Thunder the other night which is another fun one.

    Dude was all balls. I wish we could've seen RJJ vs. Byrd at heavyweight around 03-04

    Ike TKOed him in 5. Chris Byrd came at the right time. He was good but nothing special.

    i remember Byrd being quite talented, but he still needed controversial decisions to keep his title against names like Oquendo, Golota and perhaps even McCline.

    His schooling of Tua showed how masterful his defense was. One of the best defenses of the past 20 years.

    He schooled Vitali in the 2nd half of his fight .He made Vitali quit. Vitali gave a disgraceful interview after and even 'admitted' he didn't know if he was winning.

    He said it 'hurts too much' 'it hurts too much, stop the fight, it hurts'.
    It hurts too much. Chris Byrd than celebrated by fist pumping and hugging his ugly blonde wife to the roar of 20,000 German fans chanting 'byrd byrd' as they mocked Vitali.

    But ya in Klittard Land I guess that =schooling.

    Vitali was well ahead on the scorecards. He made Vitali quit? thats news to me. You tell me how a Rotator cuff tear feels.

    oh and what about when Wladamir completely dominated and outclassed Byrd not once, but twice??

    aside the result, Vitali did well against Byrd. i wish we discussed as much as the Lennox-Vitali contest.
    .wait, no i don't.

    i mean yes, we should discuss the Byrd-Vitali contest more, round-by-round especially .. although there are more pro-Vitali fans around, right, it doesn't seem too pro-Byrd here on ESB .. just a mention of him every now and then

    Well he IS the one who was making Vittles miss more than before or since, which caused the injury. So yes, he made him quit. No it wouldn't have been so bad had Vits pursued a rematch, but he didn't want to look bad again against a guy 35lbs lighter and a half foot shorter.

    Vits was certainly well ahead, but many of the rounds were close.

    A complete badass.


    The dude was undersized, without the power to help compensate for that, and still went into the ring with the likes of Wlad, Vitali, Tua, Ike, McCline, ect.

    The courage he had was immense.... and the skill he had to be that small, with so little power, and come out standing more often then not speaks for itself.

    He made Vitali quit and ****ed Vitali's woman afterwards.... I guess that made up for him losing every round.
