If a fighter is allowed to push down a shorter, swarming opponent's head throughout a fight, there's no way he can lose. Ali-Frazier II is meaningless in judging the two fighters. It's like a fight in a 6 foot ring would be for Ali. The only way someone can thing Ali won AF I, is if you think a jab should count as much as a hook.
Ali's jab? Yes, I do....... Look at Frazier's face and eyes in fights # 1 and # 3....... Ali's jabs and crosses did that to Joe's mug....... Frazier's hook was a lethal weapon, but Ali didn't eat nearly as many hooks as Frazier ate Ali's razor like jabs... Ali was only visibly scarred in fight # 1........hat MR.BILL
The Ali in 1971 had not become a clincher yet. This, combined with a stylistic weakness to a ATG swarmer produced the result, Frazier UD.
Frazier was like 205 or 206 in fight # 1 and 209 in 1974 and 215 for # 3 in Manila..... Frazier flexed 10 bounds in a four year span..... Not bad for Joe.......... Christ... Sure it does, but Frazier's solid hook shot didn't land nearly as often as Ali's stinging left jab did...... I'm not discounting Ali's work rate in fight # 1...... Not at all......... In terms of landing the more effective punches, Ali beat Frazier over 15 rds........ Back in 1971, Ali was better off afterward than Frazier was..........:thumbsup MR.BILL
From the horses mouth Angelo Dundee in his last book which you should read for yourself. Ali wouldn't train. His reasoning?? He beat Bonavena by ko after a loooong layoff. Bonavena gave Joe life and death therefore Bonavena will be in the bag and i don't havto train You really need to read Dundee's book but there you are.
