Why should a washed up, has been/never was like Rahman fight for a title? why should a 46 year old - shot to bits - Holyfield get a title shot? But you're saying, a big name, exciting, young and hungry fighter who is a former undisputed champion, SHOULDN'T get a shot? I don't buy that for a second.
I'm not saying he shouldn't get a title shot. There have been plenty of bums who have had shots over the years. (I'm not classing Haye as a bum btw) However, there are fighters out there that deserve a shot before him but thats boxing for you
fair enough, in an ideal world Haye should get in line but when you have holyfield and rahman getting shots, I'm not going to begrudge Haye one
Agreed:good This thread isn't related to whether Haye deserves a title shot or not; its all to do with some people's personal dislike of the man, which I for one cannot understand; as you say: big name (definitely at HW - promotes himself very well), exciting (fast, big puncher with questionable punch resistance - can't get more exciting than that in my book), young (he's practically a baby among all the old ****ers at HW), hungry (has been since the start of his career - always looking for the big fights).
Whos solis? You may be right about him not wanting to fight anyone without a title, or at least marquee value. All the heavyweight fights ive seen recently have been lame, so I dont think he would really struggle with anyone. His chin is always a danger for him though!
How would Solis be a 'step up'? Solis only just moved onto ten rounders and you want to put him in with a world champion? Seriously, you think Solis is a better measuring stick than Barrett at this stage?
Its a bit odd, I mean, Haye is exactly what the HW division needs right now, yeah ok, he might get KTFO, but at least whatever he does is going to add some excitement, make people take notice of the division a bit more than they would otherwise. I mean, would people rather see Valuev vs Ruiz III? Or Wlad vs Rahman II, than a proper exciting, high profile face-off like Haye vs. Vitali?
Cuban who beat Haye in the final of the world amateurs. He has a sound record since turning pro and it would be a great title eliminator fight imo.
When a unified world champ moves up a weight , the usually get some credit do they ? Any top Heavyweight ?, i wonder who is on this list , and who you think would beat Haye , your list would be short.
Barrett was the typical "used to be a decent fighter from the states". I think Frank Bruno has a collection of similiar names on his resume. At least Solis is up and coming and does holds the WBC international belt. It would be a good payday for him and Haye. And Solis did win Olympic gold so he's following in Audley Harrisons footsteps! lol
Nothing at heavyweight. I do not know how he will do against top 10 contenders but I know he has very little chance of upsetting Waldo at this stage.
