What has Lennox Lewis gotta do to earn some respect round here?

I'd say if Lennox was a bit more humble he might get more respect (than he already does). He comes across as a nice guy but in boxing terms he is not very likeable really, he hasn't really mellowed in his retirement and still likes his barbs towards Tyson and Holyfield. whereas they seem a lot more humble when discussing Lewis. Maybe he resents being overlooked by those guys and has to get his point across, but I think it does him no favours personally.

 

That is so just like Lennox Lewis.

 

I have him top five. I chop and change with him and Holmes for the 3rd and 4th spots.

Excellent boxer puncher, great ring iq, super strong and a behemoth of a man. The real deal was Lennox. Fought everyone in one of the strongest era's (who was willing to face him), stayed at or near the top for over a decade in said strong era.

Shockingly under appreciated for most of his career on both sides of the pond. He gained respect and appreciation (on here too) in the years after retirement up until a few years ago. Where now he is maybe starting to be under appreciated again as the op is alluding to.

I don't think Lewis is worried though. Happy with his lot.

 

Foreman knocked Norton who was a very good fighter, Holmes beat Norton in one of the greatest heavyweight title fights of all time! Tyson beat Tucker who many thought had the talent to be an all time great. Lewis wasn`t that good when he beat Bowe in the olympics as Bowe grew into a pro under Futch he improved vastly, winning olympic gold means fighting well for only 3 rounds plus AJ was much better than Lewis was when he won gold, everyone spotted right away that he could be heavyweight champ. Ali`s loses came during the 70s when he had slowed down plus he avenged those defeats.

Lennox was LOSING the fight. The fight had to be stopped on the cut to Vitali. Lennox promised a rematch but ducked out because Vitali was going to hammer him and he knew it.

Lennox has the stain being liar, and the fact that he was going to lose.

HAD he rematched Vitali, and won as he said he would, he would rank much higher on my ATG lists. But, that fact remains he went out with a win that was ONLY because of the cut, not because he was a winner.

 

top 5 no... he was a big heavyweight with a big right hand and decent jab, but his footwork was not so great. He had a lot of power and could have that advantage against most, but still smaller guys knocked him cold.. His size helped him a lot like it helped Klitchkos..

In boxing there is only one winner and one loser, always has been, always will be... well... except occasionally when it is a draw... and sometimes a no contest... but apart from that, in boxing there is only one winner and one loser.

NO you wouldnt. They'd be about the same in rankings. SO WHY THE DIFFERENCE with Lewis? TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY, LEWIS DID BEAT VITALI WITH HALF THE FIGHT TO SPARE! HE DID IT, THE OTHERS DIDNT "beat their vitali equivalent"

This is completely hypothetical of course because Lewis ripped vitalis face to peices with ease by letting him punch himself out and then obliterate his porous defence with ease, inside 6 rounds.

They will always try to discredit Lennox Lewis, at every turn and every corner.

If Mike Tyson had achieved what Lennox Lewis had, the debate wouldn't be whether he is a top 5 ATG, or a top 10 ATG, the debate would be "is he the GOAT?". Every single person on here, bar none, would have Tyson as either #1, #2, or at very, very worst #3.

But for some reason with Lennox Lewis, all bets are off, it is a different rule book for him.

I think they all know it deep down, but they continue to rail against him. Intellectual dishonesty at its finest.
