4 oz gloves have never been used in boxing. The lowest was 5 oz. I'd like to see 5 oz mitts used with a detached thumb.
So they can close the fist better. If you stick the thumb in the eye you get bollocked like they do in MMA. Simple.
There was a glove designed a while back that allowed you to make a natural fist and then enclosed the whole fist in padding. However the company that owned the patent didn't have any of the contracts to supply the promoters with gloves for fights. Can't for the life of me find the story or any pictures though.
There's nothing wrong with the first you can make with the existing boxing gloves. Butting is running rampant in boxing at the moment. The last thing we need is the option of eye thumbing returning.
if you remove the padding in finger and thumb area, what would be the weight of boxing glove then 4-6 oz maybe??
Leather gloves with horsehair unevenly distributed throughout are believed to be the fist commonly accepted gloves. No weight was ever specified for the gloves however "The Complete History Of Boxing" with a fantastic section of historical accounts and numerous reproductions of drawings of the time show gloves smaller than basic bag gloves. IMO looking at all the drawings of the time they appear to be in the range you mention but certainly not padded like today! BTW the Thai's - Burmese bareknuckle are a hell of a show.
Holy ****! You're a ****ing idiot. The majority (nearly all) of MMA fighters have **** Boxing skills. MMA is safer because the fights can end in ways other than KOs or decisions. Boxing glove sizes are fine.
