So his hype started with Jennings. Jennings had just had a tough lost to Wlad in a fight where you started to see the slippage in him. The very next fight Ortiz demolishes Jennings and people started to take notice. He then goes on to KO Thompson who had only been KO’d by Wlad something Pulev and Takam couldn’t do. He goes on to KO David Allen who just fought to a tough decision against Dillian Whyte.

The WBC orders Whyte vs Ortiz for WBC mandatory which Dillian Whyte chooses not to fight him and instead fight Joseph Parker coming off a loss to AJ. The WBC instead sanctioned Breazeale vs Molina for the mandatory.

His hype only grows because guys keep mentioning him as an opponent and chooses to fight others (Whyte, Ruiz, Joyce etc..). The only time he ducked was that AJ fight that Ruiz end up taking as PBC matched DAZN $7 million for him to fight Wilder. All one of these guys have to do is fight him and end the hype train.

The ring HW rankings are 4. Whyte 5. Parker 6. Ruiz 7. Ortiz 8. Joyce 9. Hrgovic 10. Sanchez
Instead of fighting each other they’ll all squat at their rankings and wait for the top four to pick their names.

Obviously Jennings, who was like #5 or #6 HW per the Ring. No, Ortiz wasn’t on PEDs for that fight, didn’t get caught even if he was. It was the Lateef Kayode fight the year prior where he popped.

It's between Jennings and Martin and I'd say Jennings probably has the better wins with Szplika, Dimitrenko and Perez while Martins best win is Washington and that freak win over Glazkov that saw him win the title.

Suffice to say Ortiz's record sucked for a fighter who's been seen as top 10 material now for half a decade. He's had numerous issues with promoters usually of his own creation like when his original promoter sued him for breach of contract for signing with Goldenboy. Then he jumped ship from Goldenboy having to buy out his own contract when they tried to make him fight Ustinov twice. He then had a fight to fight deal with Matchroom who probably didn't want to commit to a full contract given Ortiz's tendency to jump ship from one promoter to the next. Suffice to say Ortiz when on the brink of a mandatory shot did just that and signed with Haymon after he looked poor vs Scott and Allen.

I think your sequence of events is a little off.

Ortiz was schedule to fight Wilder on the November 2017 card. Stiverne had taken step aside, and signed to fight a warm up fight against Breazeale - a final eliminator of sorts. Ortiz then popped dirty for heart medication (could have been used as a masking agent). So Stiverne stepped in to become Wilder's first mandatory. Breazeale then rejected an offer from Whyte, so Whyte fought Helenius and Al Hamon made the Breazeale v Molina fight, and the WBC gave them its blessing as an eliminator because of the Stiverne contract.

It was in 2018 when the WBC then tried to rewrite history and decided it had actually been a final eliminator all along, and asked Whyte to fight Ortiz to become second mandatory. Whyte refused as they wouldn't guarantee a title shot, and he was still demanding the Breazeale fight, eventually forcing the WBC to call Breazeale v Whyte in 2019.

All that is to say, I think Joe Joyce is the only team to legitimately duck Ortiz. The boogie man mystique is highly manufactured

    1. 2. Jennings/Martin
    3. 4. Thompson/Scott
    5. Hammer

That's how I'd rate his top five wins. Not too impressive really.

Bryant Jennings, because he dominated a guy that was able to stretch and test Wlad.

Jennings is his best win. Jennings was prime had confidence coming off the Wlad bout and had about 3 decent wins coming into the Ortiz bout. It’s a good win.

Martin stinks and Thompson was on his way out when Ortiz fought him
