What is the chance that Deontay wilder could make it to the third round against prime Muhammad Ali?

About the same chance as him making the 3rd round against Fury in a 3rd fight, Zero!

If Wilder mouthed off during the buildup, I could see Ali deliberately carrying Wilder the distance just so he could administer a torturous beating like he did to Terrell.

Ali ate one absolutely huge right hand from Shavers and was out on his feet for a few seconds, but managed to recover fairly quickly.

Ali would toy with him but would not be over in 3 Ali would of boxed his ears off and broke him down probably around round 5 or 6.

Ali wasn't a monster puncher, and Wilder hasn't shown to be some glass chin.

Wilder would lose, but it wouldn't be some early stoppage. For all his crude skills, Wilder has range and a monster right hand, so Ali would not be reckless.

I would give Wilder more of the proverbial "puncher's chance" if his money punch was his left hook. But it's his right hand.

Ali is over rated as F. And I'm not saying that he's a bad fighter. I'm saying that when you start questioning "would galactus pass the 5th round vs ali?" it means he's overrated.

Ali received so many punches during his fights that he could not talk passed the 50 years old. Like smokin joe said, "ali won, but I can talk" (or somthing similar).

"Eat punches like a bulimic pig, and sting like whatever". You will be a champion, but your daughter will have to spoon feed you from 50 years old on the rest of your life.

EDIT: btw, the best boxing skill Ali had was his chin. By far, his chin made him win more important fights than any other of his boxing skills. Like Homer. ATG chin like no other. But it has a price, and the toll must be paid.

Completely. Good to see I'm not the only one to make the Ali reality check post here.

I remember what someone posted about Ali about 10 yrs ago here - and I'm seeing some of that in this topic. Many Ali worshipers "marry" the 60s very fleet footed Ali (barely above CW) to the somewhat bigger and setting down on his punches, and slower, 70s Ali. They also severely overrate his punching power. They're such experts on Ali but don't remember that Ali himself admitted he wasn't all that as a puncher. That was in an era of 195# HWs and "big" 220# + HWs. Ali had good punch resistance, but he was no Chuvalo. Btw Chuvalo - a very small HW in today's era - went 27 rounds w/Ali w/o a single KD. Ali's punch resistance was vs. 60s & 70s HWs NOT 2000s era HWs.

I know it's hard for the Ali crowd, but try to keep things in perspective. I think there's a good chance Wilder KTFO or TKOs Ali.

Cleveland Williams was not just past prime but literally was shot (with a gun, during a traffic stop).

I don't know who I would favor to beat Ali, but I'd bet on almost every HW beltholder within a couple years of their prime to make 3 rounds.

The Ali that was decked by string bean, beefed up LtHW Cooper? Fortunately for Ali near the end of a round.

One shot like that by Wilder and Ali will need much more than smelling salts to be revived. He might be revived in the ER :drooling:
