Monzon did actually talk about fighting Foster on more than one occasion late in his career. Sanity prevaield as he would have been minced.

He clearly explained he was actually speculating on a prime 160 pound Monzon fighting amateur Ali in his 175 pound Olympic final.

It's actually a interesting scenario. The bigger 175 pound amateur Ali against the seasoned ATG pro in Monzon over 3 rounds.

I'm not overly sure how it would go.

I agree, Monzon would have lost. On May 21 1977, John Conteh was supposed to defend in Monte Carlo, Monaco against WBC no. 1 contender Miguel Angel Cuello of Argentina who was undefeated. But in that contract it was written if Conteh were to be victorious, he would have to sign to defend against World Middleweight Champion Carlos Monzon in 90 days, provided Monzon defeated no.1 challenger Rodrigo Valdes in a fight scheduled for July 30 1977, also in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Conteh was furious, he refused to fight Cuello who knocked out Jesse Burnett in round 9 to claim the vacant title. Conteh claimed that the WBC had him sign theoretically by gunpoint. Tom Brookshire who was calling that fight along with Jerry Quarry pointed to a sign made by Conteh which read, No Monte Says Conteh. The Cuello vs Burnett title bout was broadcast by The CBS Sports Spectacular. Monzon defeated Valdes by a unanimous 15 round decision and retired from boxing as champion on August 29 1977 after 14 successful title defenses. On Nov 5 1977, no.1 challenger Rodrigo Valdes defeated no. 2 challenger Bennie Briscoe by a 15 round decision to become undisputed World Middleweight Champion.

My dad who was only 2 years younger than Joe Louis said that was the most brutal ko he'd ever seen.
Foster may have been worried Quarry wouldn't get up.

The date was June 27 1972, that fight card was billed as The Quarry Brothers vs The Soul Brothers as Muhammad Ali was fighting Mike's older brother Jerry in a rematch. That card was held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ali was only slightly taller than Hearns with the same reach, Monzon`s reach was only 2 inches shorter than Ali`s and Ali was a light heavy at those olympic games with biceps smaller than Tommy Hearns`s 15 inch biceps measured when he fought Kinchen at 168, just saying.

On wiki it`s 78 inches same as Hearns, Ali`s arms didn`t look longer than Hearns or Usyk`s to me and he was fighting mostly short armed fighters compared to today`s heavies.
