Duran's quit job was the worst. No excuses. He was obviously 1000 times the fighter Saunders is or ever will be, but his quit job was pathetic.
Duran had huge cojones.which is exactly why his one off rare no mas thing was such a shock and met such outrage.duran was the last you'd expect to quit. Plus Duran redeemed himself hugely the rest of his career .it took a car accident at 51 to force his fighting heart to retire. Whereas BJS is a lazy typical "brand " fighter ......his heart could be questioned for years if he was talking of being an elite himself which he was .. ...fighting soft foes....talking so much not backing it up...he basically conned the easily satisfiable UK public.....he maximised his limited ability in that conjob which told us he's elite....he quit to preserve his brand...as being knocked out brutally or taking a prolonged sustained beating would have utterly ruined him as a fighter and brand and his limited stomach for elite pro fighting. The lack of heart was evident in the life and death hugging job vs an utterly raw eubank jnr who himself is a conjob when presented as an elite fight once a year may weather wannabee....but eubank jnr has a great fighting heart...so does amir Khan and kel Brook......Daniel dubois too....I wish bjs a swift recovery and hope he learns some decency and humility....an injury like that is sad to see....otherwise he fought above his true self...best performance of his career.
Duran simply quit, not hurt at all, just outclassed & embarrassed. Saunders was badly hurt, broken cheekbone & risking his career & possibly his sight. He was in the fight & doing ok. I'm not a Saunders fan. The 2 being compared as the same are ridiculous in my opinion.
Duran hadnt slaughtered another fellow fighter for quitting with an eye injury recently after quitting himself with an eye injury.
Duran’s quitting was worse. Saunders had an injury that required either him carrying on risking permanent damage or retiring. BUT Duran came back. Will have to see if Saunders comes back and at what level.
1) context (as in Duran's established Hall of Fame legacy) 2) no one gives Duran any credit for the second Ray Leonard fight. Everyone admits he lost and his welterweight ledger takes a blow for it.
The difference is Duran didn't go on an extended rant about quitting. Saunders said he'd sooner die in the ring than quite from two broken orbitals let alone one. It just goes down as him saying something dumb
One guy was already an ATG at the time of him saying “No Mas” while other guy’s top 2 wins are David Lemeiux and Andy Lee.
quit? Billy Joe suffered a broken eye socket for goodness sake. He was too injured to continue. As a boxing fan I don't want to see boxers severely hurt. I have no problem his team pulling him out, and I don't see it as quitting.
