Because the manner at which the fight was stopped. You know damn well that if Lewis had actually knocked Vitali out, then we wouldn't be having this discussion. If you were comfortable with Lewis' win, you wouldn't bother with this discussion for 5 years either.

I have said it once, and I will always say it. Winning by way of doctor stopping the fight because of a cut is NOT a definitive victory. The end result in the record books still look alike... but as luck would have it... we humans have the ability to look a little deeper than just the technical result of a fight.

Had Lewis been winning, and the fight been stopped on a cut then it wouldn't have been such a big deal. The fact is that Vitali was winning and giving Lewis the fight of his life. You can write it off as a great, definitive victory if you want... but I'm not going to.

I would say that his eye is still in his head after the cut from LL. That's very impressive.

I'm fine with it. That has nothing to do with being irritated by false revisionist versions of the fight.

If someone came on here claiming that Oscar didn't really beat Chavez, would you respond? I'm sure you will say "no" to support your argument, but we both know the truth. :yep

A victory by an ageing, out-of-shape Champion in his final fight against the best fighter of the next generation?

You better believe it was impressive. :good

I think it's pretty clear now that John Ruiz and Vitlay Klitschko had compareable opposition. With Byrd coming in behind them as he started to decline. In 2003 -2004 there was no best heavyweight. Let alone Vitlay being "world's best fighter" :rofl

So basically what you're saying is that just because Klitschko stacked up some points early that the fight should have continued regardless of the fact that half of Vitali's face was being punched off? And furthermore, every fight that was ever stopped due to a physician intervention was not a genuine defeat? The man was no longer dominating that fight. He was getting his ass kicked. Its not like he was whaling on Lewis, then after being temporarily staggered by a single shot, fell victom to an early stoppage. He was risking permanant disability, and Lewis was starting to take over the fight.

This is not a hollow victory for Lewis at all. It was a great win for a man who was at the end of his career, and who came from behind to thoroughly pound the livin' **** out of a formidable opponent. why you can't live with that I haven't a clue.

Lewis was certainly still competitive, and might have held onto the belt for a bit longer, but do you think he was in his absolute prime in 2003 at age 37?

:smoke Its hard to tell ! LL developed traits that replaced lost traits as he got older ! An absolute prime is very hard to determine when your dealing a a fighter as smart as LL ! He was and able to adapt as his body matured ! :good

    True,

he did manage to come back and beat Rahman, when everyone thought he was finished.

Hey, do you think Tim Witherspoon could have beaten Vitali Klitscko?
