Manny Pacquiao said that he kept coming back to boxing because he felt lonely. Boxing made him, so when he's away from the ring, he's away from the very thing that defined him.

Obviously it was also about the money and adoration of the crowds, but I think he wanted to give hope and inspiration to his people as well.

It's an innate sense of competitive drive. Some have it, some don't.

But if as a millionaire you're still getting up at 4am to pound the streets, you know there's more to the game than just money.

A lot of it has to be discipline. He had specific goals from a young age and never veered from it. I think the loss to Floyd drove him to another level of dedication. He hasn't let success diminish his desire.

I see a lot of idiotic comments in this thread making it sound like Canelo has it easy which is just so beyond stupid. He is in shape all year round, is one of the most active "A side" fighters of the last 20 years. Yes he does have the ability to have the upper hand in negotiations, but if you're stupid enough to believe this hasn't been happening forever then you just don't understand boxing. That doesn't change the fact this guy is taking risks in the ring despite the fact he doesn't need the money. He would still make millions alone in endorsements yet he chooses to fight.

How many of you haters would still be at your job if you had $100 mil and still had to work hard at your job and couldn't just show up and do nothing? Most people take the Maidana route.
Even if you believe he buys judges and uses PEDs or whatever you want to say to minimize him (because of course Canelo is the only person who would have ever done such things) , you can't deny that in fights like the Golovkin fights the dude took some hellacious shots and has put in a lot of good work in the ring. That isn't easy.

I don't have a favorite fighter so I don't choose sides in the GGG vs Canelo or any other historical rivalry that makes a lot of people here squabble like children so I'm not some Canelo cheerleader that is going go on the defensive about him. If you just consider what he has amassed and he still chooses to fight, that is impressive. As to how he will rank all time ... I don't give a $#!t. That stuff means nothing to me. I don't feel you can say with any clout that Canelo has ducked anyone. I'm not a fan of the fact that one side can negotiate advantages in a bout but I'm also not naive and understand this is how boxing has always been so you can only accept that. Come fight night the guy still has to get in the ring.

    Legacy & pride.
    Hopefully Canelo can create
    a “Canelo effect”
where the next generation of boxers will fight 3-4 times a year & continue to challenge themselves with stiffer competition.

Erm because he's a fantastic fighter who is improving with age. He is the A side draw in boxing, but it takes a lot of dedication to get to that stage.

The guy is ambitious, a bit mad, lives the life and quite clearly enjoys fighting, hence why he is one of the best on the planet at it just now.

Because boxing is life. People can type what they want about Canelo, dude lives boxing and is more about it than most these peoples favorite fighters are. Thats what keeps him sharp and on track.

Manny Pacquiao lost motivation after the Miguel Cotto fight. He never had the eye of the tiger again after he knocked out Cotto. It wasn't the money. It was that he had achieved everything he possibly could in the sport. This was a guy who had torn through ATG after ATG. After that fight the drive to blow people up had vanished. You even see that in the Margarito fight he backs off. He would have never backed off Margarito in his younger days.

Clenelo is all about legacy. He has enough money. I like that. Despite being a cheater and involved in some shady decisions, i admire him in the ring and i love that he wants to fight the best in different weight classes.

His motivation is his formula that floyd instore on him when they fight,i mean, fight often, take a calculated risk, calling names, get easy belts etc.
if that work...why stop! it could be beneficial in some sort to boxing but look like wwe show.

If I had $100 mil, you'd have a hard time convincing me to get out of bed to do anything but spend time with family. Would have retired long before reaching the $100mil mark, I think.
