    Several main reasons:

    1. His incredible record in his prime (128–1–2 with 84 knockouts). In that time span, he won both the welterweight and the middleweight title. Also, he had a 91 fight unbeaten streak from 1943 to 1951.
Basically, he only had 2 losses in a decade. One was against LaMotta, a guy he beat on 5 other occasions. The other was against Maxim, for the lightweight title, and it was only due to the extreme heat, he was dominating the fight.
Basically, he was close to invincible in his prime.

    2. In his comeback, he regained the MW titles several times.

    3. His huge influence on the sport. He's the one for whom the phrase "pound for pound" was created by sportswriters, as a way to compare boxers irrespective of weight.

    4. He looks so damn good on the footage we have of him. Shame so many of the fights he had in his prime are lost.

    great post!

Ali was nowhere near Robinson but when it came to drawing attention, Ali was in a class by himself

Probably May Jr. In their minds.... Or Lomo, Maybe Canelo.
Meaning their boxing time span started around 2010.
The much richer history of boxing from the 1930's to the 1990's wasn't important because those guys were primitive, old style fighters that couldn't possibly stand up to the Super boxers of the last 20yrs. With their modern training, nutrition, and peds.

He's simply the greatest. An all around boxer/puncher with a complete package. He has incredible punching power, Iron chin, graceful footwork, good handspeed, amazing combinations, great understanding of rhythm, both excellent passively and aggressively, has an educated jab, solid defense, longevity and a killer instinct of an animal. He beat many people too including the likes of Kid Gavilan, Jake LaMotta, Carmen Basilio, Gene Fullmer, Fretzy Zivic, Henry Armstrong, Rocky Graziano, Rocky Castellani, Bobo Olson, Randolp Turpin, Holy Mims and Artie Levine. Good resume and H2H ability. He is without a doubt, the p4p GOAT!

As showmen Ray was exceptional but there was only 1 Ali. I'll concede that.
