Best thing that could have happened for Burns was Broner moving up.

Pretty obvious the Burns camp ducked the Broner fight. They'll be thanking their lucky stars he has moved up the weight divisions.

I'm not being funny about the JG of the first 6 rounds displayed greater proficiency than anything I've seen of Broner. You're comparing apples to oranges.

Or maybe Burns is nowhere near the level of Broner and managed to make Gonzalez a lot better than he really is?

No that's a flawed interpretation. JG skills were manifest last night.

    How is it?

Which world class operators had Burns faced prior to last night?

So the point you're trying to make then is that Burns is overrated and is, infact, a bit ****. It has nothing to do with the skill of JG (which to me is pretty clear), but more a case that, actually, Burns is a bit ****. Well, that's your prerogative but I think you're wrong.

Burns has faced decent opposition (Katsidis; Martinez); Broner hasn't exactly faced many 'world class' let alone elite operators either.

How can people mention Katsidis, it was his third loss in a row after 2 epic beatdowns and the 3rd loss of a 4 fight losing streak into retirement.

The Broner fight will never happen because Burns doesn't want it, it's about as blatant as it gets.

After continuously ducking Broner and then the whole Vazquez farce Burns has got a lot of work to do to rebuild his damaged reputation (people in America and Mexico now think he's a joke) and looking poor last night won't help.

But at least he left old fish eyes which is a start so I'm willing to give him a chance. lets see what happens.

Lightweight is a very weak division right now, so there's not many fights I'm too interested in. A fight with DeMarco sounds good and it's a styles match up Hearn, Nelson etc. will like. Rees isn't a great fight but he's as deserving as many other fighters out there, plus it's an easy sell. Vazquez is winnable but tough, unlike Gamboa which would be a step too far. Molina? Beltran?

It's a division with very few intriguing fights, so I wouldn't expect a brilliant fight to be announced next.

Its not a weak division at all.

Its actually quite strong, one of the strongest going in fact.

Broner, Burns , Vasquez and Abril are all world class lightweights. Guys like Gamboa , even Gonzalez last night and there are plenty more like Estrada, DeMarco, Beltran.

A unification fight will hopefully be on the table. Gamboa is world class but Rickys world champ, and its high risk low reward since Gamboa is not highly ranked.

If Ricky unifies a title in this division he could become Britains P4P number 1 boxer.

It clearly is. It's competitive but two of the best fighters in the division, Vazquez and Burns, are not elite fighters. They're both very fortunate to be active when the era is so poor. It was better a few years ago with Casamayor, the three Diaz's, Katsidis etc.. There's nowhere near that amount of talent right now and that era wasn't great either.

The quality just isn't there. It's competitive but none for the world champion fighters are exceptional. Gamboa is the best fighter in the division by a long way, and he'd embarrass both Burns and Vazquez.
