Price could very well become the Heavyweight Enzo Mac, as in he either knocks you out or you knock him out. This is probably the biggest Brit upset since Khan - Prescott, so everybody naturally becomes a expert and makes silly declarations like quitting or ruined. But I do agree that a big difference is that Price got taken out by arm scuffing punch which looks like Thompson threw as he stepped away. Not good, and pretty much every Heavyweight will aim for the temple from now on.
Fortunately I was never on the Price hype train, had a feeling Thompson was going to cause the upset and was laughed at when I mentioned it. People were starting to believe that Price was the next Wlad, banging on about him ko'ing Thompson in 1 round ffs .. last night just goes to show he never will be anything like Wlad, ever.
Wlad also had a genius in Steward to help him become the fighter he is today,Price does not,it's going to be alot harder for him to come back IMO.
Just seen Pulev's name mentioned a few times, I don't see why everyone rates him. Struggled with Dimitrenko, Walker and Ustinov, all three are a level below Thompson and Kingpin IMO.
There's more than one great trainer in the world, but yes, it would be very difficult. The whole sport is difficult. That's what they're used to. Let's wait him out. Everyone interprets "struggle" differently, I'd guess? :huh
Skills is right man. He is built well, but not built well below the waist. He has always looked vulnerable and uneasy on his legs and that was before taking that "punch" yesterday. Price's camp are saying perforated ear drum and all that stuff, i ain't buying it. It's damage limitations. The fact is, Price is gonna have to take punches 10 times worse than that in this division. And we've already seen him go down in the amateurs. Unless he drastically changes his set up, his training regime and how he fights. He won't go any further than Audley Harrison IMO. I still think he can go somewhere, but he needs to make the changes now, and not get comfortable. If he wants to become a world class fighter worthy of challenging the best, then he needs to get a world class team. He needs to make adjustments now. Not a year away and after a few more fights, right now......or never.
Price has got zero upper body movement. He stands tall and doesn't try to make punches miss. Head movement is poor. Tyson Fury calls him a big stiff idiot.....and thats coming from someone who punched himself in the face. But he does have a point I'm afraid. Price has huge power, but by the looks of it, he won't be allowed to use it if he gets knocked down like that every fight against "top" opposition. Tony Thompson 41 and out of shape, but IN condition. I know the "punch" was pathetic, but when I saw Price rolling about I had flashbacks to the Sanders - Klitchsko fight. I know Sanders threw better punches, but nobody gave him a chance, he walked to the ring not bothered against a Drago built Klitschko. Last night showed the weakness of David Price, if he wants to make something in this sport, he needs to make it a priority from today that that weakness is never revealed again. To do that, he is gonna have to make massive changes to his style, and keep fights at length behind a jab. Boring, robotic, but he will get the job done.
Maloney hasn't been able to get David Price enough fights and rounds during the past several years. Price has been a pro since 2008, and yet has fewer than 1/3 the rounds Tyson Fury and others have had. Wilder is fighting soft opposition, but at least he is fighting often. When Wladimir Klitschko was knocking everybody out in an early round, he fought 14 times in 1997. Mike Tyson fought 17 times in one year when he was doing the same. When Wlad had been a pro as long as Price, he had over 35 fights and was WBO heavyweight champion. Price isn't as sharp as he should be because of not getting in enough rounds, he should have been able to avoid that punch yesterday. Cus D'Amato: "Inactivity ruins a fighter"
I agree with a lot of the points being made. I think Price could do with more muscle on his legs and neck. He's been poorly managed by Maloney and hasn't had anywhere near as many rounds as he should have done. I think he could also do with getting a trainer who will improve him defensively, and stop him from getting hit flush. Last nights result was bad, and it's the worst way to realise where you're going wrong, but it doesn't have to mean the end for Price. He'll never have a 'good' chin but can he improve it, or prevent himself from getting his by silly shots? Yeah, he can. That might be enough to take him far in the sport, even if he'll never be a thoroughly dominant fighter. If Price had won last night, we'd all be on here talking about his next fight, paying no attention to the changes he needs to make, so whilst it was a bad loss, he needs to do everything he can to make sure it was a blessing in disguise.
On a side note, the knockout itself was extremely similar to Mundine's loss against Ottke. Ottke was a featherfisted fighter, who only ever stopped 6 opponents, but the tough Mundine got caught on the ear from a cuffing right hook he didn't see coming and went down like a ton of bricks and got counted out. Price needs to do what Mundine did and learn from his mistakes. It doesn't have to be over for him but unless he improves, it will be.
Harrison, Haye, Kiltschko all have better punch resistant than David Price. I fear that he is going to change his whole style, but i think this will make him less of a threat. David Price has not got a bad defence, this is really the first time somebody has really hit him with a 100% connection! With a punch he did not see coming. It might have just been one of those freak shots, landing right on one of the body's pressure points. Because it looked like David Price's body completely switched off from a half hearted punch. I don't think Harrison, Haye or Kiltschko would of went down off that punch. People keep bring up Wladimir Kiltschko, he's been in fights where he has been under serious pressure and came through it! Sam Peter first time around was one of these fights. Price has kind of fell at the first hurdle, but i hope he can regroup and comeback! For his own sake.
I have always thought that Price lacked confidence and you could guess it from his body language. With his undefeated record now gone against a 41 year old I don't see him going too far. To be honest I think that the public has vastly overrated Price and Fury. They have both feasted on bummy opposition and are in no way capable of snatching the heavyweight crown from the Klitschkos.
go back to domestic level fights, that's his level. I'm pretty sure Chisora beats him let alone Haye. Anyone who knew their stuff kept saying he has egg chin.
