Neither guy is a prospect. Prospects are fighters who are either very young or a combination of very young, only had a handful of fights, never fought at the contender level or won championship belts. So prospects would be the likes of Itauma, Azim, Abdullah Mason over in the states and so on.
Ennis is still a bottle of hype. Since he ducked fighting Crawford and couldnt/wouldn't fight Norman Jr....dude is literally an email champion. By all means he looks the goods but he dont have the confidence everyone else seems to have
There s no such thing as being both a prospect and a contender. I know what you are trying to underline, prospect for greatness type thing but in actual terms it is hoi myself and several others have noted.
He is a belt holder, a titlist, a champion, whatever you want to call it. You don't have to like him, you can say he did not fight A, B or C but he is not a prospect. I think maybe you don't understand what a prospect in sports is.
Typically people come off "prospect" status when they beat anyone worth beating. Jaron Ennis has still not done that. He is not 22 years old and does not have 10 fights. He is 27 years old w over 30 fights and still fighting TBA caliber opponents. His career trajectory is similar to that of GRJ at this point. Hoping Ennis takes a risk and fights a live opponent. He ducked behind Showtime and passed on an offer to fight an undefeated and former undisputed champion and then ducked a fellow prospect in Norman Jr. At some point the onus is on the fighter themselves, the prospect. It is true that Ennis won a FORFEITED belt outside the ring - that is true. But anyone with any semblance of integrity would not call that person a champion. Unless you a T-ball fan where everyone gets a trophy...cause we got 4 sanctioning bodies w a 5th trying to become relevant and in there are 4-5 world champs in addition to franchise champs and champs in recess. GTFOH. Prospect.
