That shot was right on the liver, i don't think Oscar even saw the punch coming.... No doubt in my mind, that was a legitimate knockout.

DLH had just lost to Sturm, there was no need for him to 'throw' a fight against Hopkins.

I thought Hopkins was either playing it safe early (which he tends to do quite often) or he was carrying DLH (DLH made Hopkins a partner in his GBP) Hopkins had been uncharacteristically kind to DLH in the hype leading to the showdown, that I think it is likely that Hopkins had been made a GBP partner beforehand.

In any regards, when I watch these PPV shows, I'm usually the one that nararrates and opiniates what is unfolding and what is about to unfold......just about a minute before the body shot, I had said that Hopkins now has a full beat of what DLH is all about, he timing DLH, and is about to start to open up and impose himself phsically on DLH......

    .....then the body shot.
I dont believe it was fixed, but I do believe that DLH sensed and knew that he was'nt going to compete with Hopkins down the stretch of the fight.
......so rather than be on the recieving end of a beatdown, he bowed down to a punch, that imo DLH would have gotten up and continued against a fighter he thought he could physically compete against.

DLH knew quite well that physically and even mentally, he was'nt in Hopkins class.
DLH imo could have gotten up from that body shot. Usually a fighter who gets hit cleanly like that in the kidney's, curls right up into a shell.
A shot up that alley that has a hurting effect, usually will paralyze a fighter.
DLH was far from being paralayzed, he was in such a frenzy to prove he was hurting, he was pounding the matt and looking like he was having hissy fit.

Wrong. That punch didn't have knockout power behind it. If DLH had been in the fight he would have walked right through it.

I believe you don't know what the hell you're talking about. Why the hell would he take a dive against a guy he had no chance of beating in the first place?

Let's not forget De La Hoya was winning the fight up until that point.

In a post fight interview DLH said: "I could have won that fight." I agree, he could have won, if he had come to fight. All he had to do was time Hopkins as he came rushing in. That is well within DLH's ability.

That still doesn't answer why DLH would've thrown the fight. Yeah, DLH could've won that fight...if he hadn't been KO'D.

De La Hoya was not winning the fight. Two judges had him down at the time of the stoppage.

Body shot, Body shot, Body shot, Oscar ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I think those legendary words are behind all the speculation that this fight was a fix

The speculation about a fix was for a few reasons: The shot looking weak (name one body shot KO punch that looked weaker), DLH's reaction is different from most body shot KOs as usually they freeze in pain, Hopkins saying "my round" before the 9th, the shouts of "body shot" from Nazeem in the corner, Hopkins and DLH being partners shortly after the fight.

I don't buy it. If someone says DLH was mentally beat and quit, that's one thing (he would hardly be the first fighter, especially who achieved a lot in his career already to quit), but all the stuff about it being pre-arranged.

I don't buy that ****. Nazeem always yells "body shot" or some instruction. He did it all night.
