I guess like most people my age (44) Ali got me interested. But my real interest started with Jim Watt(very underated) and Colin Jones after that i boxed myself for a while then discovered drink and drugs(like any young man should). Then Nigel Benn came along and i have been hooked ever since.
the first boxing fight i saw was tyson v.s holyfield II (which was in 1997 (i think) , after seeing that fight i started getting hooked on boxing.. but in 2000 was when i was really getting into boxing when i bought knockout kings 2000. i started researching some of the boxers and then thats how it started, after it i started watching espn classic fights.
the rocky films 1st,then saturday fight night,as a kid in the early 90s it seemed as if benn, bruno, lewis or eubank were fightin every weekend, then i discovered ali&tyson&it grew from there
My family loves boxing and I just grew up watching it from a s early as I can remember. The 80s is what did it for me. People like Duran, SRL, Hagler, Hearns, Chavez, Tyson and Pea.
ali/frazier 1 got me into boxing........i remember the older guys on the block talking about them. i was about 8 yrs old at the time. next day's paper had a pic of frazier's face all puffy and lumped up and i got mad. that's when i became a fan of frazier and of boxing in general. ali/frazier 2-3 really got me into it.
I really started to get into boxing when tyson came back from prison. Then I started following the careers of Lennox Lewis, Holyfield, Oscar De La Hoya, B-Hop, Roy Jones Jr, Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosley, Vargas etc.
holyfield v bowe 2...good card with an old t.hearns and david tua fighting also. in the uk we had also had a good herbie hide v dixon + card fight as a build up. (still got it all on VHS)
