Here is the problem...Dawson is a terrific fighter. He is making nish and fighting in front of nish..but, when a fight with Joe came up his people started talking about 6 and 8 million dollars. My point was that look at him now...the saviour of the division fighting in front of about 1,400 people at a giant lap dancing bar! It was not about talent...boxing is seldom about talent...it is all about sensible business making cash common sense.
I deal in the real world and not some fantasy world.

    Adios.

It doesn't help that he is fighting in one of the worst divisions at the moment, with Hopkins, Roy Jones and Tarver being the only the big names (and Tarver is borderline) in the division alongside Dawson.

Add this to the fact that Roy Jones is very much past it and people would rather see him retire, and Hopkins - the 'star' of the division - is considered by many to be boring, although I enjoy watching him fight. It is a division that lacks any kind of depth.

And the only young and undefeated guy capable of fighting Dawson (Tavoris Cloud) has failed to capitalise on a great stoppage victory over Gonzalez and hasn't fought in nearly a year :patsch:patsch:patsch

As Bunce says its a business. Its naive to think (however much us fans would want to see a fight) that a fight will be made just because it'll be a good fight. Its all about money.

I'd like to see him try. Asuch sense as that would make he's huge for a LHW so can't see him making super middle. The guy's like 6'3"!

The Ring belt is given to which ever fighter can make Goldenboy the most money.

I personally think Dawson is a phenomenal fighter who will rise to the top of the pound for pound lists in the coming years. Calzaghe-Dawson would create massive interest in the US and should be the only fight that Joe seriously considers coming back for. It's not about money now, Joe has more than enough of this, it's about improving his legacy and Dawson's name on his resume would improve his standing considerably.

Seen Dawson on quite a few Showtime undercards with Hatton and Calzaghe....I think that a Dawson fight with JC would have been all about timing... did Joe want it and did Joe need it... IMO it is a big fat NO to both. I have watched Calzaghe for years... I remember it was easy enough to get tickets for the Byron Mitchell fight and then the penny dropped in Wales....... Buncey says many things just for the top spin and it certainly gets people at it..:roll::roll:

You might have taken that rant as a slight on Chad, but it wasnt. It was a slant on how many people give a **** about him in the States. And that his following is enough to get the then No.3 in the world in the ring for a payday in the Millions. **** no. What's Diaconu's chances of getting Hop in the ring? Zilch.

No-one in the UK has heard of Chad, and no-one over there has apparently heard of Chad, so what's the point of the P4P No.3 fighting him.

It's sad that the fact is Dawson is a talented kid that no-one over there cares about.

If Calzaghe fought and won. Who cares, it's a Kid no-one care about.

If he lost, he's lost to a kid no-one cares about. And even at 37 his stock would plummet like no other. Instead of the usual pasing of the torch between a 37 yr old fighter and his young pretender, Calzaghe would be ripped apart. Risk/reward again. And because Calzaghe is waiting to get jumped on, it makes it worse.

It's a part of the game. A huge part.

I've read he doesn't cut much, if any weight to make 175; if he drops to 168 he will be an absolute beast. Cutting 7lbs is a piece of ****.

BTW, Chad Dawson is the universally recognised best fighter in the light heavyweight division - the last division in which Joe Calzaghe campaigned - that in itself is good enough reason for him to be a worthy opponent. The geriatric 'marquee' fight circuit needs to die now.

Mnafredo is a bad example, a lot of people knew who he was because of The Contender, thats why that fight got made.

You have to take money into account when discussing potential matchups in professional boxing, its just a fact of life.
