Dino in general is a clown but he's actually right in this thread.

Bruno 2 was seen as a return to form by Tyson. There's really little there to critique Mike for, he blew out Bruno.

What struck me about that fight was Mike's newfound right hand, it made the difference, and was an improvement on the
    first Bruno fight.

    Savarese was his best performance.

And here's a near identical sequence at 4:07 in 1989. That sequence doesn't mean anything. It's just two fighters trying to find their range. How about those ugly misses from Mike in the rest of the round, was he past prime in 1989 too, or always just an aggressive brawler that made lost of mistakes?

Agree with contro 100 percent. Didnt realise it till i went back and watched it a few months back. It was a bit of a misconception that mike was back to his best after it. Hindsights a great thing but if people werent busy getting carried away...and holyfield hadnt have had his unconvincing fight prior to tyson. He probably should have been favourite. Not that i would have claimed that at the time.

You see it all the time in boxing people see a great finish...then it almost automatically becomes a great performance. But if anyone gets the chance go back and watch it...hes not at his best in that fight. But bruno was a better challenger than most of the other guys he went in with after the lay off. Showed up his flaws a bit more.

Tbf mike was going through a lot of problems at the time. Injuries. Robin givens. Left his old trainers i think just prior to this fight. Think it was the longest lay off he,d had since starting his pro career before bruno 1.

I didn't think he was very technically sound in this fight either and I would also call it a bad performance. He was doing the same thing he did in the second fight which was just launching bombs. Tyson was only a brawler at his worst, calling him a brawler is not really accurate when he was performing well. He just wasn't sharp and his timing accuracy etc was off for both bruno fights. But I actually think the first bruno fight was even WORSE of a performance than the second one because he actually had fought the year before and still had all his tools but decided not to use them. Tyson himself said he didn't have cus' system in his head for the first bruno fight and it showed. He was just trying to take his head off and for both bruno fights it's actually accurate to call him a brawler

And his straight right hand actually developed under Giachetti from 90-91 I made a thread about this. Whenever tyson didn't have a real boxing trainer he would kind of just do whatever he wanted and try to just outmuscle and bomb out his opponents with total disregard.

Guys don't get me wrong Tyson did what he could vs Bruno and got him out in exciting fashion but I just liked the Golota and Norris(tyson was doing well against a very elusive quick guy) fights more. He looked very good for his age as against Williams I was impressed but obviously he lost that one. But I believe if he used those tools back when he still had a lot of his speed in 95 when he came out he could have had a real second career, but in reality he did not enjoy fighting anymore at that point

But in general there are two types of Tyson winning performances, he either blows his man out with bombs or grinds out an ugly win. I don't think he ever really had an all out garbage performance until Botha and really post 97, Golota was the only performance I thought even remotely comparable to past glory.

Maybe Holmes was his most complete performance? I need to review that.

IMO Biggs tubbs an ruddock 1.
Tucker an holmes were good as well. But I liked his mentality in the Biggs tubbs and ruddock 1 fights. He seemed as close to a real fighter(someone who enjoys and was born to fight) as it gets.

i can agree with some points here. I think Bruno I is a worse performance...but what's the excuse here.

Here is he is winding up and missing lots of bombs against Thomas in the early rounds, going off balance, and walking into jabs. I don't think there is anything wrong with it, it's just the way Tyson fought and he had success with it. He overwhelmed with aggression.

That walking in with his head down was his worst habit... But it went away under Giachetti and never returned.
But Thomas was an underrated fighter who showed his class when he came back from almost being knocked out in the first round to winning a couple rounds before being put on the floor for the only time in his career. Berbick Thomas holmes tubbs and Biggs were all known for great chins and durability

Well, he put a hurting on Biggs. Biggs was outboxing him but he didn't earn Mike's respect, he was trying to score with those flutter lefts and Tyson just walked through and started bombing him in the second round, he was a beat man after that first big hook. I still don't see Tyson as a well oiled machine, but it was a great performance...in that it was a swarmer figuring out how to get to his man.

Tubbs is interesting, he had a good strategy but not the tools. He was going to Mikey's body, right? Short fight too, Tyson basically blew him out, Tubbs just couldn't hurt him or take his punches.

Ruddock 1 is interesting, I do recall it being a much much better performance than Ruddock 2. Ruddock 2 was very sloppy and ugly.

    Mongoose?

Not sure why you think Tyson all of a sudden developed a straight right hand. He used it in plenty of fights before the Bruno rematch. I'd say he used it more post prison because his hands were a lot slower than they were pre-prison.

Anyways, despite looking dreadful compared to his prime years, Tyson looked a mirror image of himself in both fights with Bruno. So to answer the topic I'd have to say Bruno II and Golota were his best performances. He looked the best physically in the Holyfield rematch.

I'd say the Tyson in the second Bruno fight looked like he was once again what he had been. Sadly it couldn't last.
