Maybe get a point lead early up close and than back away until you make Floyd actually cut the ring off on you,plan on holding a slight points lead and engage floyd whenever he comes looking for points,but Mosely throws more up close even if not all are effective for the points war.
Hit the back of Floyd'd head when he's ducking low, hit the kidneys when he's turning his back, bust up his shoulders when he rolls'em high then unleash hell... Seriously... the old (young) Mosley with his superb footwork, blazing handspeed (faster than Floyd IMO), explosive combos and great stamina would've beat Mayweather, simply landing the more meaningful punches and using the his quick movement to get out of Jr's counters. I dare to say the LW Mosley might've stopped the LW version of Floyd, and I can't name anyone else doing it. However, ever since Mosley teamed up with my man Nazim, he's changed his style a bit adjustlng to his age, and now he's more flat-footed, putting a lot more body weight behind punches and producing sheer explosive power, but giving up the light and quick movement and some of his speed, which is a bad news vs. Mayweather, because you need both. On the other hand, Mosley is more of a thinking fighter now following a gameplan rather than just relying on speed and reflexes (both faded by now). To beat Floyd, IMO it's essential to have the reach advantage. Jr's punch estimation is superb and he sets the distance just right so if you're shorter, you have to step or jump in to be able to catch Floyd. He sees you coming in and has enough time to do his shoulder roll etc. But if someone like Mosley with the longer reach can take this little time gap away and catch him from the distance (without rushing in), Floyd's in for a lot tougher night. The punch Mosley has to develop is the kind of well timed, long jab DLH used VERY effectively when he actually threw that shot, it caught Floyd and made him blind for a very short time, which is the opportunity to follow up with quick combos. The question is: can Nazim teach that kind of jab to the 38 year-old, and can Mosley be consistent with it thru 12? The way I see it, Mosley has a better chance to win than PacMan because of the reach advantage and because of the big physical and power advantage over Floyd. It's a lot harder to counter effectively if you're getting pushed back with every single (blocked) power punch and maybe Mosley can break through the guard with his MW power. So, although the current, more flat-footed style and faded speed and reflexes are a disadvantage, keeping a good distance, having a great strategist like Nazim behind him, popping out the jab and landing combos with power that can have an effect even through the guard, Shane certainly has a chance of beating Floyd.
Its not as easy as simply trying to rough him up. You need to start with something you can land without risk of being constantly countered and pot shotted. If simply roughing Floyd up was the solution, Art Gatti would have had some success against him. It's one thing to purposefully dig at a guys arms, but what must be remembered is you shouldn't throw those sorts of punches if it means he eats a punch to the arm and nails you with a cross or a left hook. Floyd can and will make those sorts of exchanges all night. Roughing him up entails actually landing some meaningful punches along with the rough stuff. Hatton had some success with basic smothering, but in the end, he was so ineffective at really landing anything, that Floyd's pot shots eventually won him the fight, but he did seem to frustrate and tire Floyd some, but at the expense of his own energy.. This is only part of puzzle to beating him.. Finding openings in his defense to exploit is the vital part.
Nothing really the guy doesn't have the footwork, jab or the ability to adjust in order to beat PBF. Shane has a lot of people here fooled after beating a guy who was tailor made for him in Margo. Margo was easy to hit slow stood in front of him had no defense and no jab. Shane had him beat in every department. One must remember this is the same Shane that was getting outboxed by Mayorga of all people before stopping him at the bell. He was also out boxed by Cotto, Winky and Forrest. Shane at this point is nothing more than a slugger with good handspeed. His lack of footwork and technical ability will be exposed by an elite defensive counter-puncher like PBF. It will be a one-sided clinic in which people afterwards will say why did PBF fight this old man.
shane lost to cotto. wait two short months. less, and you will have a better challenge for floyd in the winner of pac vs cotto. everybody wanna make big whoop out of shane for beating margarito, get this. take his cement trick away from margarito, and what do you have. you have a half witted punching bag. tell shane to pick up a ligitimate win against clottey or berto before he starts tryn to run with the p4pounders.
I always knew that Sugar Shane was more skilful and powerful than Floyd so all he would have to do would be to stay close to Money and let his hands fly, bang that drum and hook him wild upstairs - surely Floyd would go if Tony Margarito and Mayo were... Can Floyd shoulder roll and move along the ropes to play tricks on Shane like he left hooked Ricky in the 10th? NOOOOO! He would have to backpedall on his bike like he did to Corrales and left hook lead to score big and have Shane stunned. So the answer is to cut the ring and lead himself onto Floyd and let his natural ability/strength do the rest... Of course Floyd knows this too and that's why he doesn't want to experience the risk.
He certainly can't fight like he did against Cotto, where he was looking to fire power shots instead of speedy combos. He has the reach and size necessary to keep PBF on the back foot. His jab would be used to get inside and once there he must keep PBF on a defensive mode, ready to take leather to land some.
