It'll pick up- We are just in a stagnant period at the moment. What boxing needs, sadly, is an American Heavyweight.

It's really disheartening. Last time some of my mates were into boxing James Toney was in shape...It's got to a point where i feel like the odd one out when we get together. I get questions like hey, Eddie are you still into boxing? is Bernard Hopkins still fighting? and these are people who could tell you about any old school fighter and break technical things down.

It wouldn't matter if they were being replaced in great numbers with new fans, but that's not the case unfortunately.

I dunno. I think, baring the odd blip, the sport has been in steady decline for 20 years or so.

What makes me laugh is the fighters who reach out to the casual fan the most i.e Hatton, Khan, Haye are the ones who get the most grief on this forum and then people still moan about Boxing going to the dogs.

That's been my impression as well. Maybe i'm being a little melodramatic, but that can happen when one has to keep explaining to a mate, why he still follows this sport, especially someone who was a big time fan not long ago. Idk, i'm probabily around too many "it was better in our day" type of blokes.

Just to be a bit more optimistic and i'm generally of that disposition. Let's hope that 2011 might be the year we put this thing back in the black from teetering with bankruptcy court. Let's hope it's the year where the promoters/networks finally get it: It hasn't been a bad start, Good prospects like Gavin, Degale etc. to keep us going, Check. Plethora of decent domestic action, check. Alexander/Bradley/Khan check. Nonito last week, check. Cotto early spring then a June PR Day Parade date, looking like a goer. Pacquiao on cinco de Mayo weekend with CBS like an 1980's throwback Wide World of Sports, check. Haye/Wlad, Manny & Mayweather in the fall, maybe so.

Not much that will get some of the lost soldiers back in the fold (i fear they've been lost forever) and certainly not the best match-ups, but at least it's ticking along and we won't have to do the funeral prayer just yet, lol!

    What do you mean, HH?

No. That's NOT what we need, it's one of the reasons we're in this mess. Dana can take his sadistic sodomy somewhere else too...i'm not one of those who think that MMA is the answer or it has done this to boxing or will replace it, that's just a big delusion. Boxing has murdered it's own children.

Just thought it was a bit too posh for a Boxing forum but don't let me stop you posting how you like.

 Yeh the world's full of them, i had some ***** in a bar get right in my face & offering me any bet that Duran & Leonard had only fought twice in 82 & 89 as he'd never heard of "The Brawl in Montreal" every ****er close around went silent out of embarresment for him as i nearly spewed up in his face laughing so much & he still stood there shaking his head saying NAH NAH not so. It was a treat watching his brain implode with the realisation that he had made himself look the prize **** that he was especially when the landlord leant over the bar & said to him softly "Tommy i think you may be mistaken" No point in baiting a cornered rat anymore so i left him to stew in his own public humiliation:smoke

There is a lot of **** taking and back slapping going on in this thread but there is no better fight night when mates are around (Boxing fans or not), everyone is supping and everyone is having a good time. :good:good

Maybe I'm a sad old ****er but I prefer my own company and the ESB round by round thread these days. Going round someones house after a skinfull at the pub and not really paying full attention to the fight doesn't appeal any more.
