No ****. Joshua is the "Super" champ. Charr is the "regular" champ And Trevor Bryan is the "interim" champ.
Interim doesn`t mean much, the term was actually invented for someone who was a caretaker champ, WBA are just trying to make more money they get a percentage of the takings from each fight they sanction.
King downsizing has nothing to do with his age, King is simply a poor promoter who is avioded like the plague by fighters alike. Essentially if you sign with Don King, you dont get fights, King actively blocks fights, and your career/earnings suffer for the sake of his business. The idea that Trevor Bryan could ever be considered an interim champ is beyond laughable. Now Bryan is desperate to make the Miller fight to make some money for once in his career, but King wont allow it. Instead, hes going to put Bryan on ice for years whilst he tries to find someone of note dumb enough to sign with him for their chance to take on the 'WBA regular interim champ' lol. Feel sorry for Trevor Bryan, hes the new Bermaine Stiverne.
Again, "No ****!" The fact is that one of Don's guys holds it. So it wont take long to see Don back at a big fight conference. Trust me, i know all about the BS that the ABC's do. I ****ing hate them.
So why did fighters sign with King from the 70`s-90`s? Is it because the word has got around now about what King did to Ali and Tyson`s fortunes?
Back then King was a fresh face on the promotional scene with a knack of pulling off entertaining huge money generating events. As all the top guys signed up to make money, if you wanted to fight any of them you had to let King take options out on you and control your career. King had his dirty fingers in every pie, from ripping off fighters, to downright theft, to corrupting the sanctioning bodies to high hell. After Lewis and the Klitschkos took over the heavyweight scene, Mayweather and the other superstars of the other divisions were making their own way, King faded away without any marque fighters. The way Don King handled his fighters and did business simply doesn't pass as acceptable anymore, thus he is behind the 8 ball. You cant keep guys like Stiverne and Bryan on ice for years these days, because no one gives a damn if they fight them or not. The only place King has power anymore is the halls of the WBC and WBA. Since his fighters have no leeway, he blackmails the WBC and WBA for mandatories and interim titles to keep some sort of relevance. Despite the acting, in case you haven't noticed, Don King isn't a very nice or likeable person. This is a guy who has killed 2 people, one by shooting them in the back and the other by stomping them to death. He has serious organized crime connections, a history of fixing fights, and has even made numerous death threats against his own fighters, as well as being sued by a lot of them. Is this the type of guy you want controlling your career? No freakin way. Youll end up as the next Stiverne.
This is a key factor. I'd have to throw DeLaHoya, Mayweather, Pacquiao into that mix too. Arum's signing of these fighters, at least for a time, helped keep him at the top of the game, while King faded from the late 90s onward.
Yeah, good point on DLH, Pac, and Floyd. But King long had a stronghold on the heavyweight division. Even when Lewis reigned, he still had Byrd and Ruiz for a number of years, and he landed Rahman as well. Had King secured the Klits into his stable, the reigns of Byrd and Ruiz would likely never have happened. But even without big name dudes like DLH, it was losing his position of power on the heavyweight scene that ultimately did him.
