All fights come down to footwork. He needs to put himself in position to land hard body combos early and hope to take some the Mayweather's phenomenal footwork away. Typically, fighters will use a left hook to the body to keep a right hander from circling towards his power hand. Floyd often escapes backwards, though, so Canelo will need to try and freeze him with a jab, then follow with the body shots.
I always want to see guys try to box Floyd yet they all submit to the Castillo method My point is they are working with outdated technology, when the Niners played the Ravens in the Super Bowl did they watch the one from a decade ago? No probably not Every 24-7 show has the guy watching Castillo and saying Im gonna do this Im gonna do that acting like Floyd hasnt learned Common wisdom tells us Floyd is susceptible early and as the fight goes doors shut, Richardson basically emphasized this when Mosley fought Mayweather. They had a set up, it worked, but it didnt end the fight and Floyd took it away So in ways Floyd can be susceptible to certain well set up punches, the problem is they rarely get a second chance. Also when guys come right for Floyd like Judah and Guerrero who had plenty of early success they become predictable because they show Floyd everything early What if an opponent disguised themselves, fought a slow pace and did not pressure. What if they made Floyd play lead and expose himself to counters? Sounds crazy but whats crazy is doing what the 44 guys did before you and suffering the same fate. Canelo may be a big man but pressure may not be his best option Is Canelo designed to be a great pressure guy? Suspect stamina and low punch output hardly get the job done as a pressure fighter He did outbox Trout in a fight like this one where it was supposed to be slick boxer vs brawler. Canelo turned the trick on us by boxing. The question for me is how many quiet rounds will the judges give Canelo. Can Canelo really win by boxing on the cards. If Canelo moves and counters Floyd could he walk Floyd into a right similar to the one Trout got caught with. I think this fight is Floyd all the way but maybe Canelo can come out smart, measure Floyd and set him up for something
Einstein's definition of insanity, doing the same thing and expecting a different result. I've wondered why more guys don't try this. Cotto did a little bit. But you're 100% right. Once a pressure fighter shows Floyd his moves once or twice, Floyd starts methodically taking them away. The earlier they show them, the less time they have them.
His best chance of not getting toyed and KTFO is if he can take and block Floyd shots on his gloves or arms. Floyd is not a power hitter so Canelo will last a while.
Canelo can not counter Floyd guys are you crazy, FLoyd just does not give opponents chance to counter he barely makes mistake in whole fight. Canelo must pressure him smartly make him move and move and go to the body in order to make it competitive Canelo must be wiling to eat some punches but he has good chin and with weight advantage Floyds power will not bother him. I just dont believe how naive some fans are because he boxed with Trout they think he can box with Floyd, unbelievable!
Whats funny is the Castillo fight was so long ago, Floyd has matured so much, and Floyd is one of the smartest guys out there he learned from that night and he knows its the fight people cite so he kind of knows how guys try to approach him People on here say you cant outbox Floyd you cant counter Floyd because he is the best counter puncher my question is how does being a great counter puncher make Floyd impossible to counter punch? By pressuring Floyd arent you playing into his strongest part of his game Canelo made Trout (the boxer) come after him and made Trout pay, now Canelo probably couldnt do the same vs Floyd and probably wouldnt win the tight rounds he did vs Trout the problem with floyd is outside the one fight he hasnt stumbled hes barely struggled, guys like Cotto have showed that they could make it a tough night for Floyd but not win many rounds or threaten to win the fight This for me makes it so hard to put together a working strategy because Floyd has never shown us a way to consistently take rounds off of him and beat him, he was in a lot of trouble vs Shane but that was a perfect set up probably concocted by spending hours watching fight footage Canelo is in for a real test but he should try to fight smart
:deal I expect Canelo to fight this gameplan. he tells the media he's gonna pressure, but in the actual fight, he'll fight like he did Trout only better.
Canelo is a very smart boxer, even in his Mosley fight he came out took a minute sizing Mosley up and moving and progressively started throwing one jab then two jabs and built a rhythm and fought smart i feel too many of Flyod opponents get anxious and get in the ring and think they gotta take it to him or land a few shots in round 1 and get overboard with their ability to land at first I think the key is taking your time
No but I think it stems down from the fact that most approach him like Castillo, every fighter in the build up, Gatti, Oscar, Cotto, Ortiz all said pressure, attack, be the bigger man and use size It hasnt worked. Most guys try to come out and attack Floyd early before he has them figured out and they wind up getting timed and figured out by floyd because they show him everything. The ideas I set forth arent easy and arent likely to work because its not likely Canelo beats Floyd going forward backward or sideways Mosely had a great plan, a specific set up and it almost worked Canelo for me has to come up with a punch and a set up and stay in the fight long enough without getting overwhelmed or to worn down by Floyds right hand and left hook to get his punch home I also dont think Canelo even as the bigger man has what it takes in the stamina and punch out put to really effectively pressure Floyd
