Well like stated above some cofidence building fights and then he'll be back. I didn't like the idea when he decided to rematch Thompsson tbh since I knew that the outcome would probably be the same.
That wasn't his idea, but the idea of his dumbass handlers who invested a great deal of money in him and hoped that this was just a fluke.
According to Price it wasn't Maloney but he that wanted the rematch. Yes there was a rematch clause in the contract but if Price is to be believed he said Maloney said they can go another route and have a few more fights first and not rush straight in to the rematch. Price says it was he that really wanted this fight so Maloney pressed the rematch clause.
