Moved better, in my opinion. Although Mayweather is far more technically sound, Ali moved with the kind of grace that I've rarely seen from anyone in the ring. At times it looked like he was skating across the canvas.
People dislike people for different reasons and therefore can have different opinions on a boxers greatness based on there out of ring behaviour or comments etc.... People dont like PBF as he is arrogant, rude, money hungry etc...therefore dont give him the credit he deserves.... People dont like Ali because he is a "womanizing, racist *****"... therefore underate him as a fighter.... not me though, i think both are absolute ****ing champions :good
exactly...People let their personal distain for a boxers personality or out of ring behavior cloud their judgement in regards to their in-ring accomplishments... Its funny because a fair majority of the people on this board that are known "Mayweather haters" seemed to score the Mayweather-Delahoya fight in favor of Delahoya. Talk about clouded judgement:nut
what makes me doubt that he is the greatest are his 45 rounds with glass jaw norton who got trashed by better punchers. i'm also not a fan of his lethargic style of mid/late 70's. that ali wouldn't stand much of a chance against tyson, lewis or vitali. the last opponent he ko'd was richard dunn in 1976. best boxer of his era but maybe not the greatest of all times.
We never even got to see him fight at his prime, since he was in boxing exile for 3+ years during that time.
i think Ali's outside influence plays a big part in his legacy as a boxer if you ever watch his stories they ALWAYS include his outside life.
Maybe the broken jaw against Norton was a bit of a fluke? He took far harder punches from far harder punchers and never got his jaw broken against them.
maybe that was bad luck, anyway my point is that if you really are the greatest you should be able to knock norton out.
Thats what i think. Its popular to say he wasnt the greatest boxer of all time and he was very good and his opposistion wasnt very good and he was overated , and if you throw in some not so well known names then it makes you sound like you know more. Its like serious musicians liking abba, they know musically they were great, but wouldnt admit to it cos they were so popular with the general public and it was kool to like them. Never thought id get ali and abba in the same post lol but there you go.
Ali is the prime example why todays fighters should get their money above all else. When it's all said and done, and you hang em up it wont make any difference who you fought or how. People will still say what they want and move on to the next big thing. Ali gave his all to the sport. Too bad he didn't give a little less, and made more money.
