[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LnQbiIbBlg&feature=related"] This content is protected =0LnQbiIbBlg&feature=related[/ame], I think it's a good element to add to whatever mma training that's being done.
alot is small joint manipulation which is not allowed in MMA. Also who in real life or in MMA would attack with a overhead karate chop? thats the setup for most of these throws on this vid. Judo seems to have better throws. Though I could be wrong.
I don't know. It seems that most of the Akido that I have seen demonstrated wouldn't really work unless used against someone completely submissive/willing.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-k_uumIQ1uk[/ame] Listen to Bas, if it was actually useful im sure someone would have used it by now.
then again steven segal taught Anderson Silva all sorts of Akido moves and now Silva can ko guys with teeps to the face.
listen to Bas! Thats all you need to know, from someone who has been around the sport of mma for a very long time. I really like Bas he is probably my favourite personalities in all of MMA.
That's why I said it's good to add to your training, not soley one style. Some of the arm bars and wrist locks i think are effective. I agree with most of what he said.
manipulation of your energy is a strong principle in all martial arts but probably none more so than aikido. in this respect, i think it is good. i think alot of techniques would be effective. generally i think alot of what they show is border line ridiculous. i've spent many hours watching much footage from many guys proclaiming to be top level aikido. i learnt alot and i like alot of them but some of it is plain ineffective unless its someone like seagal against an average joe. as a choice of fighting form, it would not be my first. it would be someway down the list. however it could compliment other martial arts nicely.
i think aikedo would look ****ing awesome if you are really really good at it and its some drunk ******* coming at you.... not the most effective use of training time and method however
I took it for a lil while when i was in high school. I wish i could have taken it longer. It's a good self defense but you gotta have patience cuz it's not like tae kwon do or karate. You don't do many physical stuff like kicking and punching. But it's a good self defense.
Depends who your fighting, how fast they are, and most imporantly...How fast you are. Take one of these smaller guys (we'll say Zab Judah, Manny Pacquaio), and I bet your are not going to redirect there punches. I know not everybody who knows how to throw a punch is fast as Pac, but not everybody who can redirect a punch is Steven Seagal. I'd take my chances being more of the aggressor, throwing a boxing combo and smashing some guy before giving him an opportunity to get a lucky punch on me. Even down to counter punching in boxing. Some people are masters of countering, but fact is: 1) Your going to eventually meet somebody who's faster 2) Your going to eventually meet somebody who throws punches that are unorthodox and you aren't used to seeing 3) Your going to get old one day, and your reflexes will slow on you So, I don't find these things all that useful when it comes to fighting, MMA, even boxing (at least eventually). It's ok maybe used with some other effective style of training to add some reflexes, and speed, but aikido alone....I feel sorry for that guy going against anybody who knows what there doing.
