When Dustin Nichols had Wilder crawling on the canvas for dear life, then the paid ref stopped fight in between rounds for a little cut. Smh
I would say from 20's to 70's it was the mainsport atleast in America.now NFL,NBA,MLB are dwarfing boxing. And my opinion doesn't count much because i'm European.only what i have readed/studied. Best would have a poster here, who born in 20's to 40's.i think then we could have accurate answer
Yes U.S PPV numbers are definetly proof.Ali vs Frazier was also PPV on Showtime/HBO and there was also 350mil Americans, and almost everybody had those Channels, and most of them ordered it in HD. I think still your post is sarcasm so nevermind
I don't think it is though. The big fights are either held in NY or Vegas. Outside of that it's Germany or the UK. HW fights for the belts used to take part all OVER the world.
Anyone at almost any location in the world can watch major fights now. People are exposed to a lot more.
I read somewhere that boxing at one time was the #1 sport to bet on, most dollars bet. But that it lost it's positioning due to corruption and too many fixed fights.
By the looks of things Lomachenko is gonna be the next pfp king and he's an offensive fighter, so that's good. Plus you got Alvarez, Golovkin, Kovalev. No Americans tho, unless I'm forgetting someone obvious. Hopefully Wilder can do well.
That's why the sport is dying cause there's not a whole lot of fans like you who appreciate their style. If you pick 100 casual fans you'd be lucky to have 10 who will enjoy Rigo Ward and Floyd fight.
