He can keep fighting. He maybe shot but RJJ an A++ fighter shot equates to a A- or B+ fighter. He can stil win and beat marketable fighters. He fought at cruiser when he is a light heavy. He should stick to 175 or 168 and beat other old or shot guys. Sheika and Lacy were perfectly picked wins after the Calzaghe debacle. Two guys long removed from victory and top fights. Green was on a streak of 6 wins one a title fight victory. He was a big risk for Jones a red hot younger guy at a heavier weight. Jones can stil learn money and pick apart guys he can market and build a retirment resumee. He can win a lot more fights as long he stays away from young tough guys.
Well hindsight sees 20/20 so we could say now he should have quit after Ruiz or Tarver I, but he at least shouldn't have gone on this long.
He should have tried to pick up a cw-title. Out of my memory he would have been the only one to win titles in the five highest weightclasses.
Just what i was gonna say as well when i saw that most people said he should have retired after Ruiz. How many of those people actually thought so at the time? It's always easy to say when a guy should have retired with hindsight, but i think the point of this thread is to go back in time in your mind and think to yourself: when was the first time i said "Roy should really retire now"? I think looking at it that way most people would say Johnson as well. Well that's what i did anyway.
Good point. Hindsight is 20/20, but how was jones, who was almost "on top of the world" after ruiz, really gonna retire right then? Though aged 33/34, he seemed to be at the height of his physical gifts. If anything, you could argue he should've retired after Johnson, but as you say he's very proud as most champs like the ones you mentioned are so he continues on. Legacy wise, it doesn't matter. Health wise, it matters to rjj and his family
