Proving equal to a prime Pacquiao and scoring the only decisive victory of the series is not falling short, not imo. a lot of close fights, very rarely mastered. A supreme talent.
100% correct. But not Nelson although his overall comp at 126 130 isn't as high as JMMs. H2h I take Professor in a heartbeat.
Why a heartbeat? Two defensive fighters with fight changing power. There is no advantage in hand speed or foot speed for either man. Both were hittable despite being defensive fighters. Both beat greats and lost to greats. Both were incredibly consistent at FW. In Indonesia, facing a running John, having points deducted for body shots, would Nelson be guaranteed victory?
Didn't bruising have a bunch of close fights as well? A lot of people felt Fenech won the first fight. Martinez, Villansa, leija
Personally I don't think JMM had fight changing power at 126. I could be wrong, but I don't see it that way. And although JMM had a very good chin, I don't see Professor going down so many times against Pac.
I would appreciate if you do not try applying logic to a debate. I much prefer it when I say Marquez had a lot of close fights, and someone just repeats it back to me in a negative tone. Quite clearly Nelson dominated everyone he faced whilst Marquez never proved it at a high level. Thanks for your input. Good night.
Quite frankly, my memory doesn't serve me so well anymore, but I remember feeling Fenech won the 1st. Having said that, Azumah said he was sick in that one. That might sound like an excuse, but in the rematch, Nelson demolished him so I might be inclined to believe him. Again, not much memory left(I'm going to have to rewatch), but I believe the Fenech and Leija fights were at 130. Once again, no memory, but I should rewatch Martinez and Villasana against Nelson as well as JMM v John. I'm getting old, man
The thread is about where Azumah is rated at feather not at other weights. There is no negative tone implied on my part if your referring to me. If you are not, I apologize. Having written that, fine fighters like Chris John and Little Hagler belong in the discussion if we are discussing JMM and the Professor at 126. It's that simple. If you are referring to my posts, I don't see how bringing those 2 up might not be logical. But if you're not, once again, I apologize.
18-4-2 (12) In World Title Fights at 126, 130, and 135. Three of those four losses came after his prime, as did one of the draws. A case can be made that he should have won a couple of these fights as well as the draw. His first loss was to Salvador Sanshez , KKOby14, who he fought on short notice. The fight was great and Nelson wou fought very well. Most felt Fenech won their first fight but the fight was scored even, Nelson won their 2nd fight by KO. He jumped from 130-135 to fight Whitaker but come up a little short and lost by decision. Nelson was awesome.
I would classify Marquez's chin as a piece of iron. From 122-126 nobody made it through 12 rounds against Pacquiao except Marquez. And the victims list includes Ledwaba and Barrera. The way he went down 3 times against Pacquiao at FW in the first round and then still finished the fight, wow. Much respect for his chin.
:goodI'm not disputing that. I wrote JMM had a very good chin. But I wrote that I don't see the Professor going down 3 times against Pac.
