Boxing is like life. Sometimes everything seems to be going right, other times everything seems to be going wrong. However, one thing I can gurantee about boxing is that it will still be around for a long, long time: nothing that has survived, in various guises, for 300+ years is going to disapear over-night. But what about the state of boxing in five years time? I see a few "significant" alphabet titles disapearing and most "fringe" ones as well. Through good marketing and common sense, the Ring Championship will be embraced by more people and will eventually be recognised as THE title. However, I see more monster shows like tomorrow and less of the small shows at venues at York Hall. There won't be enough boxers to justify having so many small shows. However, I think the most significant difference will be in Las Vegas. Bob Arum recently said that it is beyond stupid that a sport could possibly see the best two particpants meet and stick it in a 20,000 seat arena with ticket prices that exclude all but the rich and famous. (You wouldn't put the Champions League final at Loftus Road, for example). I see stadium shows, like Pacquaio vs Clottey, becoming the norm and unless Vegas builds a massive stadium it will eventually become part of boxing's history.
Everyone on here is moaning about a lack of American superstar etc etc the thing about boxing is all it takes is one Mike Tyson type figure to appear overnight to start knocking peoples heads off for people to start sitting up and taking notice and it CAN happen in the space of 6 months. Think of the hype Tyson Fury got. Now imagine he was 5 times better than he is and American. He would be a sensation. If some one of Fury's skill and status can do that. A legit superstar in waiting can blow the whole thing wide open
where is this good marketing thats being done by the ring??? Do you see there title being announced before fights and talked up? also you cant have a world title run by a magazine owned by a promotional company. would be like Warren owning the WBO..........oh wait.
I see it being the same as it is now, a niche sport. Not much is likely to change in 5 years. We'll still have greedy sanctioning bodies, they might even be worse. We'll still likely have problems getting enough press, barring something miraculous happening, due to the fact it doesn't really pay the TV companies to show boxing on TV. What we will see is a turnover in stars. Mayweather and Pac will be history. Mosley and Hopkins will be history. The Klits will be history. We'll be in another era, with new stars. Another thing we can hope for is with the relative success of the super 6 that people take that on board and we see better matchmaking and more tournaments.
Won't be much different to today. People keep thinking "boxing is dying" but that's BS. It's becoming more globalized. It used to be normal to fill up Madison Square Garden or have sellout crowds at Las Vegas back in the days, but now you've got football stadiums in Germany and even talk of Wembley stadium. The fact that we can get on the internet today and talk about lower profile fighters who would have been unknown 20 years ago shows that despite being a niche sport, globalization has helped boxing spread, like everything else.

I disagree.. It has nothing to do with the talent, it's boxing itself as a sport. Its half dead..! No exposure, people are less educated about it...! At grass roots level on the street, it's being over taken by MMA. People need to face up to these facts. Just basic things, like i can remember on the eve of Mayweather vs JMM. I asked someone............... Did you watch the fight..? and they replied "Yes mate" and then start talking about MMA. Take all of footballs main players away, people would still come to watch matches week in week out..without fail. It has nothing to do with the boxers involved now in boxing. Once upon a atime yes, but now.....NO! Boxing as a whole is ****ed up, it is run badly. And its basically loosing its interests in the general public. One athlete might come along in boxing, and course abit of a stir. But does this one athlete, redeam all that boxing used to be. I don't think so mate, it's abit more deeper than that. People need to face facts.

No. This was a LENNOX LEWIS uppercut. A Lennox Lewis UPPERCUT! That little nipper just threw a lewis uppercut and smashed that Cheryl Lynn. That, my friend, is proof right there that boxing isn't dying. Pretty boy bam bam. Cashflow Mayweather. Lekhi Mayweather. That kid from the primary school. PROOF. LIVING PROOF. As long as they LIVE, boxing LIVES. As long as they sell boxing gloves in the Argos catalogue, YOU SIMPLY CANNOT DENY that boxing is alive.
