I thought he looked pretty fast. Barrett isn't a good guy to look fast against as he too is light and has decent speed. One thing I will say about that fight...goddamn Barrett has no quit in him, whatsoever. He gave Haye a pretty good fight despite losing. He took it to David for those 5 rounds. But overall Haye looked good against a guy who is oftentimes a spoiler, so I give him some credit for this fight. I still think he needs another fight before taking a Klitschko on.
imo hayes handspeed is faster than chambers. haye can be 5 foot away and then launch and land a lead right or a left hook chambers needs his opponent to walk to him and be up close
lmfao so you reckon the majority of heavyweights are quicker than Barrett? atsch And 3 kos in his last 3 fights didnt suggest Barrett was shot did it now :think He was made to look slow by Hayes reactions which are used to much quicker people at cruiserweight
Haye took Barrett out in five, yes, and Wlad did in seven, but Wlad had a much fresher and younger version of Barrett. So while Haye was impressive, keep in mind how slow Barrett is these days.
I mean this was a underated victory for haye lets not forget barrett had just blown out the american hope Tye fields inside a round.
I was one of the guys championing for Haye to fight Barrett, and when it was signed i thought Haye had done us justice. But....there has to be a but..... the Monte Barrett who showed up was not all that impressive imo. His footwork was all out, his punches where wild and he looked very old. Haye did well to get him out of there in the manner he did but i still have reservations over his hands down style fighting. When Barrett jabbed he backed Haye up and made Haye feel uncomfortable. Haye at time telegraphed his single punches and as posters are saying he does have good handspeed but his defensive reflexes and footspeed are very overated.
Good summary. I think Haye is fast for a HW - I'll let others debate if he's faster than Chambers, or how much faster than Wlad (not by much). Against a shot Barrett - swinging wildly - many HWs would have looked like a world beater. So far it's still all hype. Let's see what Haye can do vs a few top HWs. If he picks carefully he might go 1-1.
Actually Gomez has tremendous hand speed. Much better than Haye. However, I do agree he is currently one of the fastest Heavies. ** Edit, forgot about Chambers, he is also much faster.
His speed is not quite approaching great but it's more than decent, especially some of the counters against Barrets jab. He has a pretty average defense, as he took quite a few shots last night. I also noticed he seemed to be getting pushed around the ring quite a bit and he seemed to get a little fatigued from it. I think Haye has some work to do before he gets in with the Klitz. He has to shore up that defense and develop some more strength when clinching. He does punch damn hard but there's only so far you can go with that asset considering his beard and stamina. It's going to be fun watching his next few fights.
