A fading Hagler is still way better than Peter. I think Leonard saw what he wanted to see when Hagler fought Mugabi. Mugabi had success in spots but Hagler was using Mugabi's head as target practice with his jab. Hagler took some hard shots but for the most part, beat Mugabi's ass. Leonard was at a bigger disadvantage than Hagler IMO, having not fought in 3 years, just once in 5 years, and being the smaller man.

IMO, it's an 8. It would be a great achievement because of the lay-off, but Peter (as we saw in Toney I and McCline fights) is not a great heavyweight, he is a good hw champion, rightfully no2 just now. With no lay-off, Vitali should and would stop him early. With the lay-off, coming right back with no warm-up and beating the no.2 hw is commendable. An excellent win, the best on his resume, but not a truly massive historic achievement like Duran beating Leonard was for instance.

How do we know this? Hagler never won a fight after Leonard. Coming back from loss is not so easy. I seen dozens of champs try and go directly south. How much Hagler would have left after this loss is debatable. On the topic of Hagler vs Leonard, Leonard out smarted Hagler, and the decision to this day is hotly debated.

If I'm rating this strictly in a heavyweight division comeback I would give it an 8. The thing holding it back is that everyone knows prime Vitali is much better than Peter is or could be. Also its easier to make comebacks now because of lesser number fights, better medicine to recover from injuries, and nutrition/suplements.

Adding in other divisions, which adds in the pound for pound factor, his huge size advantage makes it a 7.

    Still very impressive.

...as if Leonard running all night, could have some how ruined Hagler.

If anything ruined Hagler (which didn't happen, he retired in disgust), it was Leonard's unwillingness to rematch him.

Sam's going to bring it and Vitali--after sizing up the situation, will bring it tooo.
    Can't wait for this fight.
Vit may settle for a UD after rocking Sam late.

    8/10

Vitali is coming off a 4 year lay-off, out of retirement from serious injuries that forced him to retire and is coming back to fight one of the biggest punchers in the division and a serious pressure fighter where he can't really afford to make any mistakes in. This will be a great win for Vitali if he's able to pull it off, Sam is no joke like many claim or think he is, he's a legitimate threat and if Vitali is able to beat him or even stop him then he should deserve some serious credit for it, not only will it be a very good win if he pulls it off but he will also grab the WBC title. Considering the serious situation Vitali is coming out of this will be a great win if he manages to do it.

The McCline fight is the reason why this one will be dangerous for Vitali, even if he drops Peter early it doesn't mean it's all over, Peter proved he can still get up and come back even if he's seriously hurt.
