No, he did hang out with some though. In the late 70s and 80s boxing in Germany was associated with organized crime. More or less they ran boxing until Sauerland - who actually was a big time weapons trader in Africa back then - and the TV station RTL decided to make Maske a star. This brought boxing back into the limelight in Germany and took it out of the hands of organized crime into the hands of Sauerland, Universum and later Oener and K2. Doubt it got much better though.
