Which boxers didn't train very much at all?

Fighters who didn't train that much but did well regardless?

Look at de la Hoya in the Felix Sturm bout with his cheeseburger locker, still won the fight on paper.

Tyson before Douglas in Tokyo, living it up, still landing a cuncossive punch flooring buster early on in the fight before his butt got handed to him during the rest of the fight...

Also Larry Holmes, who admitted he trained the way HE wanted to train. Only running a mile here a few miles there. Never in peak physical form, always flabby. He said if he trained the way trainers told him to train he would lose. He persisted that they didn't know how to train properly (his coaches I mean) he alluded to the fact that he needed to be relaxed not tired from overtraining. Look! It worked!

Some other shoutouts would be Emmanuel Augustus, who probably got paid to train he fought so darn much. AND James toney, a selector of sparring upon more sparring.

Edit: buster Douglas gets full credit, that was a poor reference and yes buster trained hard

Holmes was never flabby until his post-Tyson comeback. He was always lean prior to then. He didn't have an aesthetic physique at all, but he had visible abs.

And for whatever he wants to say, his "doing it my own way" bit him in the ass against McCall. He was winning until he could just not keep up the pace. Had he cut back down to 220 or so, had he pounded out the miles like he did when young, he'd hold the record for world's oldest HW champ.

Outside of a lot of sparring, James Toney didn’t do a lot of training.

Roberto Duran never trained a day for any fight he lost, from what I’ve seen posted on this forum lol.

I been studying up on Rudy Rob Fitzsimmons’ solar plexus punch to try to take the wind out of folks, haha. Think of it as a tribute to one of the greats!

I seem to recall Joey Giardello hating to do rigorous training but still managed to do well for himself by relying on his natural talents.

It's crazy to call Holmes physique not aesthetic. He looked better than 99% of men in the world. Especially in the 80's.

I heard the same thing on Giardello. And more so on Maxie Rosenbloom. In both cases it was due to a very active schedule. They stayed in shape by fighting. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the same for Fritzie Zivic, Harry Greb and Johnny Dundee
