If the only thing in your arsenal is punching, even if it is the best punching in the world your still at a massive disadvantage. You'd need a world class defence against all forms of attack for your hands to be affective outside of the odd fluke. The first M in MMA stands for mixed, being a beast at one aspect of it and not having any of the other parts is like having a drag car in F1.

Yer cos pele is 6'7 wbc champion boxer and former world Kickboxing champion.

What I'm saying is Vitali has backround in more than one disipline which would serve him better than most boxers around.

Also he is a big strong guy with a fighting attitude and commitment, what's to say he wouldn't be good at grappling if he committed?

No need to get sarky about it.

Well Reid sparked him in a kickboxing match.

Two disciplines? Hardly. It's all stand up.

Oh I see what you said now, Hey thats my bad, I thought you had written Pele as in the soccer player for some reason, thought that was a mighty strange thing to say... must learn to read. :patsch

Taekwondo and Karate... 2 different displines or not? they too are both stand up techniques so according to your logic karate and Taekwondo = 1 disipline. true or false?

What Im saying is Vitali can Kick as well as punch. most boxers can only punch. so it immediately puts him at an advantage than most other boxers.

Exactly if he's versed in 2 arts and there both striking it does him no good at all you need a wrestling or grappling background to compete in mma these days

Cintron has a wrestling background, the Hattons and Klits have a kickboxing background, Jeremy Williams was a black belt in Judo and had some decent potential in his few MMA fights.

Steward fighters can make the transition because he teaches them balance and not overshooting while leading with a jab. Too many boxers have very poor balance and overshoot so much that it would be seconds before they are taken down.

As for Vitali, 'World kickboxing champion'. Never in K-1 so what tin pot organisation did he win a title in?

Okay, not disciplines but levels. He has no ground game. JDS barely uses kicks, doesn't mean Vitali would have any advantage over him in an MMA fight :good

who cares if the stand up is poor, i watch mma to watch mma not to watch a quality boxing match, i see past the sloppy punches and i dont question why some throw punches incorrectly. Anyone can make the switch but no one will make the switch and be a contender in the UFC. The only time we might see it is when an athlete who trained wrestling and boxing since an early age then pursued boxing became good, after a few years went back to wrestling and mma

    that would be the logic

however for someone with no wrestling throwing kicks would actually make him a lot more vulnerable and easy to put on his ass than someone of the exact same calibre who only punched, vitali is all wrong for mma i could name tons of other lads who would be better

    he would get ****ed up
