That is a talented bunch and many good jabbers. Would probably swap Berbick and Bruno for Page and 'Spoon, though. For overall skill I still think Folley, Machen, Moore, Ali, Liston, Terrell, Patterson and Jones shades them. The late 80's got a great case, though.
You dont think Erskine was a TECHNICALLY good boxer? Or should I include Mederos and Smith for "blasting" Harold Johnson, who was a wee bit technical too.
Its a tough question. I also like the 80's for the diverse skillsets, and a lot of technically sound boxers. Fighters might have been lazy, but there was a lot of talent floating around.
I do, but he was not up there with the Zora Folley's, Harold Johnsons, Eddie Machens in the sweet science of things. I think Valdes Jab was a better boxing tool than anything Erskine had to offer.
Valdez had a massive jab but his defence was poor, as was his balance and movement, Joe was far better technically despite the fact that he couldn't break eggs. He was a bit "chin up" at times but otherwise very solid in my opinion.
Prefer late 40's early 50's than late 50's early 60's. Walcott, Charles, Maxim, Johnson, Moore, Louis, LaStarza, Bivins, etc. 80's is a good nomination too.
