I’m not really a Lloyd fan but I remember this and felt a bit bad. He should have left it after Breland.

Not knowing at the time that he had more chapters to write, Roberto Duran losing to Kirkland Laing took my soul.

I thought Duran was finished too. Manos de Piedra was an incredible fighter. Kirkland was lucky that night but he grab that opportunity with both fists.

I was gutted when Laing lost to Buck Smith after dominating the previous 6 rounds and seemingly on the verge of a ko.

Kirkland was reportedly on the verge of a world title shot against either Starling or Breland. I was gutted for him.

I know he stood little chance of winning but it would have been great to see him on the World stage. Kirkland was a real character both in and out of the ring. Check out his biography, an excellent read.

David Reid and Odlanier Solis. I eagerly awaited their comebacks after they each showed promise in high profile loses and they never even came close to showing previous form.

Muhammad Ali, he fought too long. Should have retired after The Thrilla In Manila.

As a huge Duran fan I agree 100% , I was stunned more than heartbroken . I wasn't as down when he lost to Benitez because though he looked sluggish he did go the distance. The loss to Kirkland Laing? Now that was heartbreaking, I thought he's done now. Little did I know he was going to fight close to 20 more years and win championships.

Well before my time but it would’ve been crushing to see Joe Louis knocked out like he was against Marciano.

If I was young and a fledging fan as at the time, it might’ve made me hate Rocky, at least initially.

Of course it would’ve been incorrect to feel that way - but hey, that’s how we sometimes react in real life.

Without being a fanatic, I was a fan of SRL like many. His loss to Camacho is extremely hard to watch - and I’ve barely watched it.

Interesting that after the fight, Ray commented how he never really felt the punches in his hey day - BUT in this fight, he said he felt every punch and they all hurt.

That’s part of the ageing process for great fighters - they transition from Supermen to mere mortals - and naturally, witnessing that transition can be very hard to stomach for their fans.

Vuyani The Beast Bungu getting owned and concussed by Price Naseem Hamed..The Beast was the best we ever had down here in Mzansi...he got wiped out in 4rds by that cocky *****.Some of us cried like babies that night.

No wonder Barrera became one of my all-time favs after he schooled that *****.

Floyd Patterson when he was decimated twice by Sonny.
As a kid Floyd was the first fighter I ever got in to loved his speed and style.
When Sonny demolished him the first time I was really upset but I held out hope he could turn it round in the return, but when it happened again I was distraught.
Anyway I then latched on to Ali who gained revenge for me over the bogeyman Sonny.
However became a big boxing fan and learned to love them all, Sonny is one of my favourite ever fighters.

I remember this. I had a love/hate relationship with Hamed.

Loved his power and unorthodox style but hated his disrespectaful attitude.

One thing is being cocky but he took it too far. The way he treated Brendan Ingle at the end (McCullogh fight) was too far.

I was a fan of Bungu, very impressed by the way he beat Danny Romero Jr and let´s not forget hiw 2 victories over Kennady McKinney.

I thought he might be able outfox Hamed or at least extend him but Naseem put on his most impressive performance in a long time.

I was gutted for Bungu and oh so pleased when Barrera schooled him. Especially since I never dreamed the Mexican would dominate him so much.

As a kid i had some:
Every time Wilfredo or Wilfred lost.

When Arguello lost twice to Pryor, I had wanted to see him make history and in the second fight because of the cheating allegations as well.

When Rafael Solis lost to Macho Camacho. As much as I loved Hector , us Puerto Ricans always want a new world champion when the opportunity presents itself, just like we want a new Miss Universe and are heartbroken when our candidate ends up in the top 10 but not the winner.

Every time Larry Holmes won. Now I love the guy but back then?

I was not a kid by then, 29 years old, but last but not least, when Tito lost to Hopkins.

Holyfield should have retired after Moorer 2 and cemented a ATG top 5 legacy. Too many people remember the ghost that fought Lewis and think that was something close to prime Holyfield.
